Anyone think he made a mistake in leaving early? Undrafted and a basic rookie contract. Nothing he couldn't have gotten a year latter.
Yes, I think many of us think that perhaps, Givens, Bates, and even Shareef Miller should have returned for a last season. I selfishly wanted them all to return for PSU to make a run next year. However, coming out this year may not have been their best option for the draft. FWIW, there have been rumors on other message boards, and something I heard from a close friend that more or less confirmed it, that there was some friction amongst the team last year and some guys just wanted to move on.
We had a few guys that didn’t step up their game and it probably caused a lot of friction between players. When you’re put in position to win and don’t get it done it stinks and it happened I know in 2 games last year. Water under the bridge now. Let’s get ‘em this year baby!
It wouldn't surprise me a bit. When you're successful in bringing in a lot of "stars" (as in 4 star, 5 star), you're also bringing in a lot of egos. Anytime "I" is inserted in "TEAM" friction happens. In my opinion, that is one of the reasons for all the "free agency" transfers. A big part of being a successful head coach is keeping these egos in check. Joepa was a master at this!
