Just got a job as OC at Washington. I still believe he’s a pretty good OC he was just coaching at a disadvantage at Penn State and even Vanderbilt IMO. We will see. I wish the dude well

Interesting to see how he does, Washington Huskies have a good amount of talent.

I’m pulling for Donovan Roam. Considering Vanderbilt scores enough points to win 9 games a few years and we didn’t have any losing seasons his 2 years at penn st I still think he’s a good OC. It’s hard to judge him because at penn st he really was in a very difficult situation. Remember BOB won 16 games calling plays Donovan won 14 but BOB had NFL talent all over the field. I don’t think BOB would’ve survived not having losing seasons in 2014 and 2015 that’s just my opinion though. I agree Washington will have the players so we’ll see what he’s got.

Curious to see how it works out. Donavan has a lot of coaching  experience. Washington possesses  plenty of offensive firepower especially for the PAC-12  It would be great seeing him do well.

Donovan did have NFL talent, just not on the OL. Chris Godwin, Desean Hamilton, Saquon Barkley, Mike Gesiki were all starters in 2015. Nothing magical happened to the roster between 2015 and 2016 other than some players got more experience and a new OC came in.

Same thing with LSU, they didn't have an overhaul in talent from last year to this year, a new OC came in and changed some things... Made the offense go from good to otherworldly.

Not saying Donovan is a bad OC or that he wasn't hindered by the roster, but you need to stop saying things like BoB had NFL talent all over the field when Donovan didn't. Donovan's entire roster of skill players went to the NFL:

Starting WRs: Chris Godwin (NFL All-Pro) / Desean Hamilton (Denver Broncos starter)
Starting RB: Saquon Barkley (NFL Rookie of the Year)
Starting TE: Mike Gesiki (Miami Dolphins starter)

Some of them players were very you g plus the OL under bob was WAY better than what Donovan had. The team bob has was a seasoned team what James Franklin walked into was a depleted roster trying to find somebody that can block for a QB that was a turnover machine. I know Trace  was on the team but James Franklin has his reasons I guess not to let him compete because he was better than Hack. I’ll never understand that one.

The 2012 team would’ve had a chance at a NC run if not for the sanctions. The 2013 still a few studs but 2014 and 2015 was the weakest Penn State teams in the last 50 or 60 years. The sanctions devastated the OL thank goodness James Franklin come a long that’s all I got to  say.

I already said he had a bad offensive line, but you can't say he didn't have talent and then also say "well it was young".

Just more excuses. I mean... your argument is basically in 2013 we lost all our talent, we had zero talent in 2014, none in 2015, and then in 2016 had overwhelming talent?

All I am saying is I know Donovan had a bad OL, but young players don't just get 10+ points per game better in 4 games. That's what happened between 2015 & 2016, we jumped from a 80th ranked offense to much, much higher.

I'm excited for Donovan, and interested to see what he does at Washington. If his offense ranked in the top 70 next year, it would be the first time in his 6 years as an OC.

When good players grow up and get better and stronger you’re going to get better. It’s not an excuse Barkley and Gesicki were better players their jr and Sr year than their freshman year just an example plus James Franklin brought in another young QB that might not have been ready when the 2015 season started. James Franklin brought in better players in his first 2 years and his 3rd and 4th speaks for itself. Me personally I think the 2017 team was better than the 2016 team because it was basically the same players but a year older. Players get bigger faster and stronger over 4 or 5 years and that’s exactly what happened. Donovan didn’t have the luxury of this happening he was coaching players recruited under sanctions. Plus we had a few walk-ons. I’m I’m saying is Moorhead and Rahne walked into much better situation than what Donovan did.

Teams don't get more than 10 points better on offense just due to kids getting older. That just doesn't happen. Sure they grow and gain experience, but that doesn't turn a 28 ppg offense into a 40 ppg offense. Sorry.

It does help players getting more experience but a different QB had a lot to do with it just like it did in 05 from 04.

That's true, a new QB can certainly make a difference. Well, we'll certainly see how he does in Washington!

Coaches can also get better with experience too... Ed Orgeron was 3-21 at Ole Miss and he just won the Natty!
