So today we hosted the NFF banquet at Penn State.   Guest speaker was former Philipsburg-Osceola/Maryland/Oakland Raider long snapper Jon Condon.   When I asked about ending up at Maryland when he played HS ball in PSU back yard, he said "interesting story. Jay came to my school to recruit me. He asked if I was ready to play in front of 100,000 next season. It turned me off immediately that he didn't do his research on a player 20 minutes away, I was only a junior.  That turned me completely off".

LOL.....anyone here want to say Jay was a good coach?  FAIL!

He made up for it recruiting D-Clark when nobody else would give him a chance.joe and jay made D-Clark earn everything he accomplished and man did he accomplish a lot. Didn’t we get Curtis Enis because Ohio st spelled his name wrong? I think I remember something like that lol

Clark was offered scholarships from Nebraska, Iowa, and West Virginia so I wouldn't say no one else gave him a chance.

You're right about Enis... He said they kept sending him stuff addressed to "Chris Enis"

I heard D-Clark say that after a game is where I get that from. He said joe didn’t even want to take a chance on him and joe told jay give him a scholarship but if it doesn’t work out it’s on you.

Apparently, Joe told Scrap the same thing when Scrap was recruiting Shane Conlan.

I’m not a big Jay fan. I think he was in over his head as a coach, got the job purely from nepotism, and rode his dad’s coat tails for way too long. However, to his credit, I have seen interviews with DC17 where Clark said Jay and PSU was the only school that stuck with him when his grades were an issue and he had to go to prep school first.

So true.  It's sad that in the end, Scrap got screwed, just like Joe.

More than once Joe said it was time for Jay to move on.  However, Sue wanted to be near the grand kids, which kept Jay around.
