we all know the goat Joe Paterno is #1 but the one that kills me is #4 and #13. In 16 years the great Barry Switzer won 12 big 8 championships, 3 National Championships and was 12-5 against Tom Osbornes Nebraska teams. These dudes went at it every year and you see the record and they have Osborne at #4 and Switzer at #13 😂 Joe and Bobby are 7th and 8th which is just laughable. Why don’t they just call ole southern and I could give the the best top 5 coaches and I would do it for free.
#1 Joe Paterno
#2 Bobby Bowden
#3 Bear Bryant
#4 Steve Spurrier
#5 Barry Switzer
1,2 and 3 aren’t even debatable 4 and 5 I have my reasons 😂 I only rank the top five best college coaches because this is where the big dawgs coach
The reason Switzer isn't higher on the list is all the allegations and scadals around him. Charges filed by the SEC for insider trading, NCAA violations that lead to his "resignation" (he was asked to leave or he'd be fired), the probation that followed for the program, and the stories about his tenure written by reporters and other players... the most sensational of which was Brian Bosworth writing about cocaine, hookers, etc.
It's completely tainted his legacy, and the fact he's still #13 on the list tells you how much everyone respects the accomplishments.
Roam, you’re a decade younger than most of us so you might not know that’s what Switzer said and man it pissed the media and a lot of people off when he said it. I’m a football coach not a babysitter lol

Oh I know it's what he said... but it was more than that. He had great teams at Oklahoma because they paid players. Period. There is no doubting it, it was proven, even his former players admitted to it. It was widespread, and he was the coach. Troy Aikman also didn't like him in Dallas, and pretty much blames him for the downfall of their dynasty. In Aikman's own words, he said Switzer was a mediocre NFL coach who inhereted a great team and made it worse. Stated in 1995 when the won the Super Bowl, they were worse than the year before. Then in 96 they were worse again, and in 97 even worse.
Just aaying this is why he's not high on the list. A lot of people think his titles were either inheriting a great team at the pro level, or bought and paid for in college.
Joe Paterno said something like “I have to stay coaching college because I can’t leave college football in the hands of men like Switizer.”
@roaminglion Oh i agree he definitely wasn’t a role model and I’m quite sure there was some things going on against the rules but it was going on at Florida St, Nebraska, Miami, Alabama, Georgia, USC, SMU, Clemson and a few other schools to so it wasn’t just Oklahoma. You’ve hit the nail on the head a few times saying how much better college football is today compared to what it was like in the 70’ and 80’s where a boat load of teams were breaking the rules. I named them teams above because I remember all them teams in bad scandals. Alabama was on the verge of getting the death penalty and I remember Joe Paterno was against it and if I remember correctly he was one of the reasons they didn’t get the death penalty they cheating so bad. I forgot about Ole Miss and Tennessee… dam it boy 😂. I remember Joe speaking out against giving alabama getting the death penalty in the papers
As for the NFL Barry Switzer did what he was supposed to do and that’s win a Super Bowl and imo the team was getting older so there was going to be a drop off on that team regardless who the coach was. JJ built the team but Switzer still did a great job there and they won the SB in his second year not the first if I remember correctly.

They won a SB his first year, lost in the playoffs his 2nd year, and they fired him after a 6-10 3rd year.
In many of the Cowboys minds, a clown could have coached tbe team he inherited to a Super Bowl.
Also, most of the schools you just named never had it proven that they were cheating. You can say everyone was doing it all you want, but he was caught. Not only caught paying off players, but letting them do blow, multiple arrests, and himself accused of insider trading.
My point is this is why he's not higher.
Oh i agree with you but man i thought it was his second year, my bad.

BTW... The genius Belechik still can't win a playoff game without Brady 🤣🤣🤣🤣
...and you were right, 1994 was him too. That's my bad. Since Aikman said they were a worse team in 95 than 94, I assumed Switzer wasnt coach in 94. Seems they werr, but man Aikman didnt like him at all

🤣 Yeah, but are you married?
For as much as Harbaugh says he'll be Chocking his Meatchicken next season, he must just be interviewing for practice, just in case he goes pro in '24.
