Clifford is not the answer. Last year he was average, and this year he's been okay but not great. Overthrows and looks scared or timid about throwing to the wide receivers. Much better at throwing in the middle of the field, but stares down his receivers badly.
Honestly, the last two years of watching the Ohio State / Penn State game have really solidified my belief that you switch the two QBs we win those games. However, I also wonder if Fields stayed committed here if he would have developed like he has at OSU. Who knows. But to me it's obvious, with McSorley this team would be worlds better than they are now. With Fields they would be too. We just don't have the talent we need at the most important position on the field.
Say what you will about the defense, but I don't think they are as bad as we saw on Saturday. I think they've kinda given up, there was no fire. Not saying they are a great defense either, but with a potent offense they'd be good enough. I don't think th eOL is as bad as it seems either, Clifford has no pocket presence. Runs or bails the pocket too soon.
When you look at his overall stats last year, they look good. But when you break it down by game? Completely skewed by big games against terrible teams.

I would go Will Levis this weekend and play Roberson to mix it up a little and to get him some snaps. Nebraska's pass D is horrible, so they will probably stay with Clifford and chip away on short passes in hopes of building back his confidence. Look for another, but not as bad as, lousy first half and then I think Penn State will pull away for their first win.
I still think Clifford is the best QB, but he is so confused and frustrated that he needs to step away and take a breather.
GO STATE!
@mtnittanylion. Should’ve let the other QB’s play in the 4th quarter in the Maryland game their defense is garbage.
