https://www.si.com/college/pennstate/football/projecting-penn-states-2022-starting-offense After reading this I’m feeling pretty good about the OL.
Go easy brother SPF. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me 5 yrs running, not gonna happen until I see results.
@been-there-ii Y’all just remember ole southern said this will be a great season. It might not be the best QB and RB we’ve had since James Franklin got to Penn St but it might be the most talented team he’s had goi g by the recruiting experts. Good things are on the way baby just wait and see. From top to bottom this is the most talented teaM James Franklin has ever had.🇺🇸🍺😁

What is going to make this team so much better than last year?
@psujoe new blood from the DC, Yurcich and the OL coach have another year under the belt with the team and the team is a year older with better players. The backup QB and RB’s is huge imo plus James Franklins back is up against the wall and I just believe he’ll get it done this year. I believe the team will play better this year as a team. QB play will definitely be better.
@southern-psu-fan You need to start listening to the podcast Blue White Breakdown for a dose of reality. The other day they got off topic and started discussing the all time PSU lows and embarrassing moments in the 8 years under Franklin and stated they may do a full podcast on that in the near future,
Looking at the schedule I see 8-4 and probably going 3-3 against these 6 OSU,Meatchicken,Auburn,MSU,MD,MN and then the annual miscellaneous loss against a team we should never lose to.
@southern-psu-fan I mean, you said last season and the season before it would be too. 🤣 🤣
James Franklin biggest problem the last 2 years is he’s finding ways to lose games instead of finding ways to win. The good thing is we’re in the games we just ain’t winning but that can change if Diaz is as good as they say and the OL is better.

All I will say is this: With the talent and depth we have, we SHOULD win at least 9 games this year. That's really what should be the low bar, however the last 2 years have not given me any confidence that we will. This year there is no team, not even Ohio State, that we don't match up well against on paper.

Correct. Fact is, for the exception of a blocked FG and a lucky bounce, Franklin’s tenure as coach has been marginal at best. Nothing would please me more than to see the team finally earn the respect they have had in the past.

Ummm James Franklins biggest problem is James Franklin and that has been PSU’s problem for the past 8 or 9 years.
@psujoe the last 2 years have been crap but 2014-2019 were pretty dang good seasons. Considering the sanctions, 2014 and 2015 were great seasons. I believe James Franklin needs a 10 win season this year to get some of the heat off of him.
Excuses, excuses…….
@southern-psu-fan Even if we have another 10 win season, I'm over it. I don't care about "almost", I want to make the playoffs. For as much as we've committed to a man who are two very bad seasons in a row, he needs to win now. Enough of this great but not elite BS, we have the players and need to put it together.
10 wins is great and all, but after a while it just starts to look like Franklin's teams sh*t the bed when they get close to being elite. Time and time again, round and round we go.
9 wins this year is the absolute minimum. 10 wins would be good, but honestly I don't see anyone on our schedule we should not be able to beat. Ohio State has out-recruited us, but not by THAT much. Michigan lost a ton of players, and no one else has the roster we have. Come to think of it, 9 wins is a very generous low bar.
Excuses are in the eye of the beholder, not in Southern's post.
@roaminglion 10 wins gets the heat off him 11 wins and the playoffs is a good season. I agree with you.

Yup 2 crap years but even the decent and good years were marred by questionable coaching decisions. The man should have been fired but instead he got an extension
@psujoe I don’t think he should’ve been fired but he definitely shouldn’t have got a contract extension. I would’ve give him another year but under the same contract because he’s done nothing the last 2 years to get a new contract. If he doesn’t win 10 games this year he needs to be fired.
@sky: I'm not a Franklin fan. In fact, I think they should have kept Moorehead and let JF walk. In saying that, why do people here and on other forums refer to the blocked FG as a fluke or lucky bounce?? Had the tables been turned and OSU blocked the FG attempt and returned it for a TD against us, we'd be reading how Urban outcoached JF once again. The fact is, OSU had ample time to come back and win/tie that game and didn't get it done. Let's not tarnish what the boys did that night on the field just to throw darts at Franklin.
@t-hale The kid was given a football scholarship to help win games. The block FG was practiced in practice so it wasn’t luck it was good coaching. Haley was in position to make a play and he blocked the FG and the results were we got the win and it wasn’t luck. Who wants to make a play to help win a football game in crunch time baby…I ain’t seen a whole lot the last 2 years and that’s why we’ve been gettin beat late in games. Just ole southerns opinion. We’ve had guys in position to make plays it just ain’t getting done and that’s James Franklin fault because he’s the head coach.
Make no mistake about it, I’m pulling like heck for James Franklin and I do believe he will get this thing going again he’s just made some bad decisions and it’s bit him in the azz. I like the guy and I’m his biggest cheerleader to get this team in the playoffs.
On at least 5 or more occasions in the past 4 weeks - and I kid you not - I looked at my watch and cell phone and it said 4:09! I think Joe is sending me a message! I hope it means he will be guiding JF along the way this season! For this reason, I think it is going to better than last year as Southern is claiming!!
Yes, I understand 4:09 happens twice a day! However.....makes you stop and think for a second when you are Penn State fan looking for some hope!!!! LOL
GO STATE!!
PS: I just hope it doesn't mean we need a coaching change! LOL
@mtnittanylion That’s awesome! Hopefully it is a sign of good things to come.
Culture is King. It seems that the successful programs have a culture where the players expect to win and they are therefore able to overcome adversity. This has not been the case for several years at Penn State and they have lost games that they should have won even when they had solid leads late in the game.
I think the positive difference this year will be the defense. An aggressive defense that does not keep absorbing body-blows and does not give up points on late drives will result in a culture where the kids know they can win and they expect to win.
