@psujoe Not sure about leaving him on the bench, but we do have other RBs that seem to be hungry.

Conservative as I am, DA gets to keep playing as long as we are in the playoff hunt.  But I also start getting #2 more playing time.  DA is a known, #2 and #3 are not.  Am I against lighting a fire under DA by playing #2 after a bad series?  What can it hurt?  It has not been tried.  If his psyche is so weak that it damages him then he is not leadership material.  Someone noted he is a Multi Millionaire that has ended 4 big games with 3 INTS and 1 INC.  I suppose he has ended an equal number early or with a fizzle.

We so wanted a different DA to show up Saturday and most of us knew he was the key.  Oregon did what everyone does, shut down the run game and made it about DA.  The defensive plan is obvious, everyone knows it.  It is what you do to rookie QB's.

Southern I don't see Saban as the GOAT, I see him as the antithesis of JoePa.  Yes his QB's often made big plays but my memory is that they were usually with good time and plenty open receivers.

Saban had 5* OL's, RB's and receivers.  His QB's tended to be functional and many QB's in the Top 50 would have wished for that team around them and excelled.

The SYSTEM as Nick called it was to have the best non student athletes on the field.  And when NIL made it obvious that system was in jeopardy he gracefully retired.  Not a whole lot different than P Carrol at USC (left for a different reason).  It is now THE SYSTEM Oregon uses and the system OSU has had for a while.  And sadly the system that we are being drug into.  The NCAA decided.

Moneyball in college football.  How to get the most production with the $ you can spend on athletes.

@underlion Saban definitely had the best players after he was there a couple of years. Alabama was average, LSU was average at best and Michigan State flat out stunk and what Saban did at all 3 schools was amazing. He didn’t do bad at Miami college football just suits him better and that’s where he was needed. Make no mistake about ole slick Nick don’t take a back seat to anybody he’s as good as it gets. The man needs to be judged by his record and his record is spectacular, it speaks for itself. It ain’t a fluke what you win like he did at 3 different schools especially when the teams he took over were average or below average but he who wins the most games is the best and all know who that is. 409 definitely speaks for itself!

We do have good dudes on this forum that believe the SEC had an advantage over the last 5 decades in playoff games and maybe they’re right and that’s what is really more special on what the goat Joe Paterno accomplished because he came down Deep South and kicked the shit out of southern team, went out east and kicked the shit out of whoever he played and stayed up in the NE and kicked the shit out of the heavyweights. Go look at the goats playoff wins baby, loaded with the heavyweights. 24 playoff wins baby most all times in that as well. The King of college football is the great of all time Mr. 409 Joe Paterno!

How many truly elite QBs did Saban ever have in his career while winning championships?

First 4 he won with complete game managers. Same for his title at LSU.

Last two he had actual NFL talent at QB. Georgia won their 2 with a drunkard NFL dropout.

Alabama didn't have a top 10 recruiting class in 2004, 2005, 2006, or 2007. He got a top 10 class in 2008. There was no portal. He won a NC in 2009

Sorry but no, that roster was not comprised of the best recruits. At all.

And that said... recruiting is a big part of being a college coach. Not sure why being good at it makes you "lesser than"

Saban never had flashy QB's because his system offensively was a run first mentality using play action passes for his passing game...He also gave all of his recruits Dodge Chargers and nice cars at a time before the NIL and it was legal...During his championship runs he always had the most talented rosters from top to bottom...When the NIL came in he gave it one year and realized his advantage was over...He realized and rightfully so that for the most part he could pound the ball down his opponents throats due to his personnel advantage and more or less told his quarterbacks to protect the ball and avoid turnovers...He also always had the top defensive personnel roster so he knew his team wasn't going to be giving up a ton of points either...It sure helps when you have the advantage of giving your players fancy cars and cash under the table when others can't...Sorry but Saban is the 2nd biggest fraud only behind Billy boy Belicheat...

Saban, Bellicheck, Paterno who cares. Id like to see Kaytron become the feature back on 1st and 2nd downs going forward. Singleton excels in pass catching, they’re trying too hard to make him break explosive runs and it’s one of the main reasons this offense is bogged down. Singleton hasn’t been what he was since days under Yourich.

@kularrow

I'd go with Allen over Singleton too.

I've had it with all these god damn excuses. Everyone else gives people Chargers, the SEC cheats, the Big Ten is so lilly white and we're all pure... that's why we lose. The refs hate Penn State, the voters hate Penn State, my sister hates Penn State... GOD hates Penn State.

FFS Everyone is to blame as to why we don't win except ourselves.

The truth hurts...The guy was one of the biggest scumbags to ever coach in college football...He got out because he knew EVERYBODY could pay players now and he wasn't going to be able to pull his bullshit anymore...He saw the handwriting on the wall...Billy boy Belicheat and Tricky Nicky Saban are 2 of the biggest frauds and snake oil salesmen to ever walk the sidelines...

I for one would have no objection of having Saban take a 5 year contract with PSU and I think the ultra wealthy boosters would have no problem opening up the coffers for him and NIL. And I'd venture to say if he brought home a Natty or two, there ain't nobody on this board that was disown him.

As I understand currently, JF is not bringing in the big time NIL money b/c some of the booster are refusing to donate as long as he is HC. Maybe someone on the board here can validate or refute.
