I hope yesterday’s loss put to rest all this stupid talk of winning a NC. Even if we did have the personnel to do it (we don’t) JF will find a way to mess things up. As I said years ago we will never win another conference championship or NC as long as Franklin is the head coach.
We can be 2 loss and make the playoffs BUT we need to stop being what we are on offense. We can not expect our Defense to win games while we play prevent offense. Joe had the reputation of reinventing himself or the team...we need to loosen up earlier. The pieces are there but some leadership needs to see a sports psychologist!
I disagree with only one thing regarding what you said...We ABSOLUTELY have the personnel to win the NC...As a matter of fact I think we have the most complete team in the country with the exception of one player who happens to be the quarterback...I would love to see what this team does with Grunk in there...I honestly think we have nothing to lose and everything to gain...As long as Allar is the QB we will NEVER win any of these big games...He don't have it in him...He folds...
I think we can do it and I think it can be done with DA but we need to get the monkey off our back. We were lucky on the draw last year and we could have easily played in the NC. Offensively we continue to choke and leadership has to take the responsibility for the choking culture. The team of Head Coach, OC and DA needs to figure it out, they are responsible. I don't think we can blame receivers for yesterday's loss. The first half was wasted and I know they won't say it but the defense must want to take the offense out behind the woodshed.
We need a strategy to deal with holding of our rush ends. I think Our rush ends need to watch some professional soccer players and learn how to dive. Apparently it is only a hold if it goes 3 Mississippi or you take the guy down and I'm not sure about 3 Mississippi.
As amazing as Cael is with getting wrestlers to perform on the big stage our Football Offense is the opposite. Both are abnormal. Cael gets guys to wrestle freely and at or above level. Maybe it is easier in an individual sport, maybe Cael is authentic. I don't know. Sadly the wrestlers expect to win and sadly I'm not sure the Football team does. In my heart I was completely ready for yesterdays loss. It followed the script.
@underlion Will Stein, OC and QB coach at Oregon is this kind of guy we need on the offensive side of the ball.
Yet Allar has 2 of the 4 top 10 wins Franklin has at Penn State. Franklin is 4-15 against the top 10, again... Allar was the QB for 2 of them.Exactly. We know Allar is a loser. He's proven he can't beat the big boys. Let's see what the Grunk can do
Allar is not the problem, he is a symptom
Who are the 2 top ten teams that Allar defeated? Boise and someone else?
@underlion my brother underlion, what have you seen the last 3 years to say we can beat a heavyweight? DA is a disaster in crunch time playing the heavyweights. What you saw last night is what you get. Almost every QB we play outplays DA rather we win or lose. Even when we win he gets out played and the other QB’s are going against our stud defense. The dude tried his best and gives it a 100% but he just ain’t got it in him to win games like last night. 0-7 is the record in big games. 2 OC and 9 WR’s and the same 💩
You are correct Southern...He isn't a pressure ballplayer...You can't teach that...You either have it or you don't...This kid folds every time in these big time pressure situations...Some guys are clutch ballplayers and some guys ain't...Some guys feed and love the pressure and play their best ball under pressure and some guys just fold and disappear...Allar is the latter unfortunately...I wish it wasn't this way but it is...I know this much...He is going to do this same thing at OSU, He is going to do the same thing against Indiana if it is a tough ballgame and he is going to do the same thing when they go to Iowa...If it is a pressure situation to win a game he is gonna fold...He has done it every game since he got to Penn State...What makes any of you think the next big tough pressure game is going to be different? I don't know if the kid coming off the bench is the answer...I do know that the guy we got playing now ain't...So make the move and see how it goes...I would sit him if I was coaching...I can tell ya this much...The guys I played for would have sat my ass down by now in this situation and rightfully so...I would be a very wealthy guy if I could figure out how to turn guys like Allar into pressure ballplayers but unfortunately I have come to the conclusion you are born with it...Some guys have it and some guys don't...Allar definitely don't have it...it's a shame because he has all the natural talent in the world...He just can't handle pressure...Unfortunately handling pressure effectively is the key trait you must have to be a great QB...He will never be a winner...He is what is holding back this team from making the run at the NC...It's a shame and I feel bad for the guy...But he has his 3 million so he will be ok...No need to save his feelings...This is the big time and he failed...Time to give the next kid in line an opportunity to see what he can do...
@the-funeral-director UCLA stinks and this week is the week to give Grunk a chance in game time to see what he can do. We can beat UCLA with our defense and 3rd string QB.
You all searching for another QB like he's the problem. Lmao, you all know who the real problem is, it's the guy in charge. Franklin even said so at his presser. He said it's not the narritive, it's a fact. He doesn't win these games.
I have always taken issue with his "1 - 0" mantra. It puts the emphasis on winning, not playing your best. I don't like it. When you talk about winning as the goal, kids tend to get tight. Some fold.
Saban, whether you like him or not, always talked about the process. Play your best, put it all out there. Other things will fall into place. Never mentioned winning, and you can see it in his players... they are there to play hard and give there best. They are confident, they don't think about "winning". Every play is just another chance to do your best.
@roaminglion well if that’s DA best then he should’ve been benched 2 years ago and James Franklin needs to be fired today. We could’ve had lambert smith and Harrison Wallace on the field at the same time last year and Pribula running the offense and the results against the heavyweights would’ve been different but we have incompetent leadership that can’t see who the best players are at QB or WR’s. Pribula was very young still getting better and they let him walk for a QB that’s just not good. Even against bad teams he’s not good. The studs all around him are good but he’s maybe average or below average QB. Pribula, Lambert Smith and Wallace are water under the bridge but somebody needs to be held accountable for showing them the door when they were clearly the better players.
As for Saban the best players always play and I promise you results on the field matter for Slick Nick he didn’t like to lose.
You to dang gullible Roam, have you ever seen slick Nick on the sidelines when they’re getting beat his eyes are popping out of his head and I’ve seen the veins in his neck almost explode 😂 maybe you watched a PC clip on tv or something 😂
WTF does that have anything to do with what I said? You to dang gullible Roam, have you ever seen slick Nick on the sidelines when they’re getting beat his eyes are popping out of his head and I’ve seen the veins in his neck almost explode 😂 maybe you watched a PC clip on tv or something 😂
Yeah for 11 effing years we can't win big game, but if only we kept these players we'd magically win. FFS@roaminglion well if that’s DA best then he should’ve been benched 2 years ago and James Franklin needs to be fired today. Sounds like Roam thinks we need a new head coach
@roaminglion I guess I took what you said the wrong way the way you responded. Nick Saban is nothing but about winning while he was coaching. I just took what you said the wrong way. My bad
I am not saying that coaching isn't a problem...Put the coaching aside...The PLAYER needs to take accountability...The coach didn't make him throw that ball...It was a bad play call in my opinion HOWEVER the player needs to put that ball in his pocket and take what he can get or throw it into the seats and line up for 2nd down...The problem is this particular player has a HISTORY of doing the same boneheaded shit every time he is in a big game and in a big situation...I get it...You don't think Allar is the problem...I disagree...If Allar don't turn that ball over I am as certain as one can be that Penn State wins that ballgame...He isn't a pressure ballplayer...Some players thrive under pressure and some players shrink under pressure...Unfortunately Allar shrinks under pressure...YES...I think they need to make a QB change...I think UCLA is the perfect game to do it...Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result...If I am coaching that team you can bet your ass Allar would be standing next to me with a headset on and a clipboard watching the game...It's time to give somebody else an opportunity...That's how I see it...Allar hasn't and will NEVER handle the pressure against the big time teams...History tells us so and to keep parading him out there over and over again and thinking all of a sudden this kid is gonna rise to the challenge is just a fools errand...Time to give somebody else the opportunity because Allar didn't get it done with all of his chances...I say this for the good of the team...
All of this coaching talk...Nick Saban and all of these guys that win a ton of games did so because by and large they had the best players...What did Saban do in the NFL? I can tell ya...He did NOTHING...What has Billy boy Belicheat done without Tom Brady as his QB? I can tell ya NOTHING...How is he doing in North Carolina without the best players? NOTHING...He is getting his ass kicked...A coach's job is to put his players in the best position to succeed...At the end of the day it is all up to the players themselves...Great players can make the most inept coach look like a genius...Penn State has the most complete team in college football in my opinion...You switch out the 2 QB's from Saturdays game and Penn State beats Oregon by 21 points...The difference is Allar can't handle pressure...I ain't wild about the OC and would fire his ass too...But there is NO EXCUSE for a 3rd year starting Senior 5* QB making that bad of a decision on the very first play of an overtime drive to win a ballgame...Sorry...He has pulled this crap for the last time as far as I am concerned...His time as the starting QB at Penn State University would be over...He would be the 3rd team emergency QB moving forward if I was running the show...He don't have it in the clutch...He folds every time...
I was clear that it is the team of DA the OC and the HC. They all need a 'head coach' read 'therapist'. Michael Jordan and Larry Bird wanted the ball and they got results. Even if these guys want the ball they choke when they (DA, JF, OC) get it and I'm not blaming effort. I am not doubting DA's effort or that he is a great teammate.
Does sitting DA make it worse? Can it? Is the OC allowed to do his job? Statistically we are either consistently overrated or we underperform in big games. There are teams better than us but ND 2024 and Oregon 2025 were not IMO. DA was not bad in the first half, the coaching was. DA was bad on the last play, again.
Answer this, Had DA had a great 4th quarter comeback (it was) and then won it in OT would that have gotten his mind, psyche, whatever, over the hump? I hoped it would of but I'm afraid he just isn't that guy. Same with the OSU game, if he were to win it does anything really change?
The kid don't have it...He never will...You either have it or you don't and he don't have it...It's sad really because of all the talent he has...I don't doubt his work ethic, him being a great teammate or anything like that...He just can't handle pressure situations and as a result he will NEVER win the games against the elite teams...As the kids say he don't have the ice...
@the-funeral-director What’s really sad is the kid flashed signs of more heart, guts and talent when he was playing backup as a freshman. When he came on as the starter as a sophomore he seemed like a different player and has gradually regressed every season since. It seems to happen to every highly touted QB we sign (Hack) and it doesn’t seem to matter who the OC or QB coach is which seems to me to point to the man at the top as the culprit.
Not sure you know much about that situation if you are flexing about Saban in the NFL. He took over a 4-12 team and went 9-7 the next year. He then had a feud with the ownership when he couldn't get the players he wanted. Tried to get Drew Brees, the doctors wouldn't clear him, so he called Brees' agent and told him he would vouch for Drew's ability to play. All of this coaching talk...Nick Saban and all of these guys that win a ton of games did so because by and large they had the best players...What did Saban do in the NFL? The Saints then signed Brees, seems to have worked out. Seems like Nick kinda knew what he was talking about Yeah...Saban knew what he was doing, the Dolphins didn't and still don't.
McSorley's QB rating dropped lower every year too.@the-funeral-director What’s really sad is the kid flashed signs of more heart, guts and talent when he was playing backup as a freshman. How many truly elite QBs did Saban ever have in his career while winning championships?
So if we’re going to bench Allar as some people in this thread want to do shouldn’t we also bench Singleton? The guy has been equally disappointing and seems to have completely lost his way.
