Don't think for a second Penn State's playoff chances diminished when Clifford went down at Iowa. And don't judge Roberson on his 3 qtrs at Iowa. Yurcich can coach QB's!! Let's just start with what has done with Clifford this year so far. In all likelihood, Penn State would be sitting at 6-0 and #2 in the country with a decisive win over #4 Iowa had Clifford not got injured. That is taking an 0-5 to start QB from last season to 6-0 this season. Then factor in some of the past QB's Yurcich has coached up and you start to see what this guy can bring to the table.
I am giving Roberson a free pass on his performance vs Iowa. Yes, he made quite a few mistakes, missed some easy passes, but he also showed some positive signs too. One that sticks out mostly to me is, he just went in there and did his best with about 15 minutes or less of REAL playing time this season and he did his best! Look at his first two plays and then look at his confidence level as the game progressed. I think he swallowed his nerves after a few minutes and then just made typical "first year" lack of experience mistakes by a QB with little to no real game experience.
NOW, give this kid two weeks to properly prepare, coached by an OC with a proven track record and a home game against an Illinois team that he should be ok against, with a defense that will keep the score low and I think you see a different Roberson!! I truly believe the IOWA game did him more good than harm and if he starts against Illinois, he will be much smoother than what we saw vs Iowa. This kid is going to want to prove himself and redeem himself and I think Yurcich can have him ready in two weeks!!
Penn State is still in this and don't count Roberson out! Wasn't like he stepped on the field against Villanova last weekend, he stepped on the field against a very good defense and the #4 team in the country!
GO STATE!!!!
I gotta give TR this much, he had the balls to face the media after the game and didn't throw anyone under the bus.
In all honesty, with or without a healthy Clifford, I don't see us beating OSU at the shoe at the end of the month. Had we caught them earlier in the year when their D was suspect, we had a chance. They seem to have righted the ship and are saying pretty smoothly now. Hope I'm wrong.
@tsuga good teams get better when they have to go to the backup QB. Oklahoma, A&M and Ohio St are 3 examples but I do agree with mtnittany, let’s give Roberson a chance and see what happens in the Illinois game. He has 2 weeks to get ready and I believe he will. He might not be good enough to beat Ohio St but it’s hard to beat Ohio St when you’re 100% but the Illinois game will be a good test
Tulsa, Akron, Rutgers and Maryland.....what ship are you sailing? Get back up in THAT tree stand!! LOL
GO STATE!
Was it the same guy that said the trouble with coaching at William and Mary was there were too many Mary's and not enough Williams?
