Gavin Mckenna , our sure fire #1 draft pick was the lead story on my local news tonight. Apparently he went into downtown State College Saturday night and went on a drunken rampage and is now facing serious prison time.
Story I am seeing is Gavin was with his family and some kid was verbally, let's say being rude, to his mom. Kid apparently wouldn't quit and McKenna decided to end his talking. Broke his jaw.Gavin Mckenna , our sure fire #1 draft pick was the lead story on my local news tonight. If that is true, this will be pled down considerably. No one is sending a kid to jail n on felony charges if he was defending his mom from verbal assualt.
Again... if true.
I read the same thing Roaming, he was with his family after a tough game so I doubt it was a drunken brawl.Story I am seeing is Gavin was with his family and some kid was verbally, let's say being rude, to his mom. He’ll have to pay up but that’s better than going to jail. If true the punk deserves a broke jaw.
More interesting would be what his mom did/said. Good boy or don't?
Sounds like he got suckered into two minutes in the sin bin.
Bull Durham 'did you hit me with your right or your left? I can't keep teaching you these things, when you get into a bar fight you don't use your pitching hand...'
Doesn't matter what was said. Felony assault is felony assault. It wasn't like his family was in any danger. Let's see how tough he is in front of the judge
Completely incorrect. Context and mitigating circumstances are most certainly taken into account in many cases.Doesn't matter what was said. Felony assault is felony assault. It wasn't like his family was in any danger. Let's see how tough he is in front of the judge
Also, verbally assualting someone is illegal and can be taken as threats... so you have no idea what was said or how his mother felt in that moment.

"The friends said they recognized McKenna because he is a hockey player and they believed he and his group came from Doggie’s Pub, 108 S. Pugh St. "
Says it all. My guess drunken words were being exchanged between groups.

True, however legal mitigating factors do not excuse the crime itself.
Coming from a bar doesn't mean you are drunk. Also, being drunk doesn't mean you are fair game for others to verbally assault you or your mom.Completely incorrect. Generally true, unless what was said was a threat to cause harm. Punching a guy for insulting your mom is one thing... and punching a guy when he says he's going to f*ck you up or harm your family is quite another. The latter is an immediate threat that could be used yo excuse or reduce charges.
Also, follwing them around could be argued that thry began to feel threatened because they could not get away.
That's why I stated we need to know what was said

I won't argue with that. At times it's very hard to hold emotions in situations like this. Yes, we don't know the whole story yet or who the aggressors were and if alcohol was involved and if anyone was intoxicated. I'm just saying felony assault is serious depending on the level of assault. I'm not a lawyer so I don't know. There are many categories of felony assault and depends on severity. Sometimes it's best to walk away for as hard as it sounds. There are many times when people got punched, fell back and end up dying days later, manslaughter. Your life can turn in the blink of an eye. This sounds like a party after the game fueled by alcohol and it turned bad, JMO

We will see in the coming days where the truth is I think
Can I beat our troll to the punch? If he were a SUNJ Athlete he would go to jail for life or minimally be under house arrest in Newark. But because he is a Hockey Star at PSU nothing will happen....
Maybe he will get sued for his NIL $$$$

Doesn’t matter if you beat it to the punch, it’ll still feel obligated to tell us about its warped view from that alternate universe.

You can say that again!
Even more reports coming out now. Gavine was at a restaurant and this kid started talking, eventually calling Gavin's mom a whore and other vile things. Other hockey team members were there, convinced them to leave and thr idiot followed them and kept talking. He got close and Gavin then knocked him out.
Yeah... I'd be surprised if this idiot kid wins anything from Gavin. He is not going to sue and win. He was clearly the agressor. Yeah our legal system can be sue happy, but no one is winning a civil suit when they started and then pursued their target. Kid got what he deserved, and I doubt even the misdemeanor charges stay.
@roaminglion exactly the way I see it. Dude is a punk and he deserved to get knocked out. This should be over already imo
Punks claim to fame in life will be that he got knocked out by an NHL player...if he's lucky.

Well, if that's the story and it's true, the kid was looking for it. EOS...I would want to see the full detailed report before I rest my case.
@jimmy-v lol Now you want to see facts, after you found him guilty in your 1st assessment?
The kid is 18, yet you came to the conclusion "The friends said they recognized McKenna because he is a hockey player and they believed he and his group came from Doggie’s Pub, 108 S. Pugh St. "
Says it all. My guess drunken words were being exchanged between groups.

Please show me where I said he was immediately guilty? I said let's see how tough he is in front of a judge. We have a due process. Yes, I would like to hear more about this story, exactly what happened. I believe we still have favoritism in our system.
Well, it's true? Isn't it ? They came from a pub. What do they serve at pubs? Alcohol.
I said it was my guess, which means it's assumption, my guess. If you notice I didn't say what groups were saying slurs or drunken words. By no means am I saying it's ok to punch a man twice. I want to know why he was punched. What was the specific threat to punch a man twice?
That quote about the pub was copied from a state college news site, not my own words.
