A Texas running back recruit is opting out of his final year of High School to prepare for college. If I was Sark I'd pull my offer, that's a bit ridiculous IMO. I mean, I get opting out of a bowl game or leaving early for the NFL but... that's the NFL. It's the pinnacle.

If a kid is opting out of an entire HS football season, why would you waste time and effort on him if he'd most likely do the same thing to you. Play him and he leaves as soon as he can, even if you play him maybe he transfers... Don't play him and I can guarantee you he's gone.

No. 82 recruit Jaydon Blue to skip senior season of high school football to prepare for commitment to Texas Longhorns (espn.com)

I don’t remember what team it was but it was a rivalry team for Tampa back when Warren Sapp was there and I remember Warren Sapp being a smart azz saying “I guess they’ll try and talk their way to the Super Bowl, the team he was talking about had a bunch of big talking hotdogs on their team. I know people didn’t care for Warren Sapp but man he was a tough ole dude. Now Warren had a big mouth to lol. I guess some of these high school kids think they’ll talk their way in college without having to prove themselves. Man that bunch back then talked some trash lol. Do y’all remember they were  always talking trash?

I'm not surprised by this at all.  It's a logical progression of the "me, me" culture that exists in sports today.  Blame it on Freshman eligibility, the recruiting madness, the transfer portal, the opt out of bowl game trend, etc.  I don't think football today is a "team sport" anymore.  It's regarded as a showcase to display one's individual talents in pursuit of landing an NFL gig and the outrageous money that commands!  Sorry for ranting, but that's the way I see it.

Easiest way to stop it is to rip the scholarship. All they need is a bunch of high ranking schools to say "yeah, plenty of talent out there and we don't need a kid willing to sit an entire season."

Do that and this nonsense would stop.

Also, coaches bear some responsibility in this too... If they weren't offering kids in middle school (cough, cough, Harbaugh) or as freshman in HS this wouldn't be happening either.

I'm sure he wants to spend time on higher level math and science so he does well at Texas.  Got to get those SAT's up to be eligible 😎
