Loved watching President Trump's "Salute to America."  What a great way to honor the day and our country's hero's.   Very proud of the USA's military accomplishments.

I've seen a few military and veteran orgs come out against the parade, basically saying they are sick of being used as props for politics.

I didn't realize Trump gave out special tickets to republican donors, essentially turning it into a campaign rally. Some vets and military took issue with that, saying it shows what his real motivations are.

Sadly, vets have been used as political props for as long as i can remember, that'll never change.

I can remember when JFK had tanks and missiles in his inauguration parade. I thought the show of force was ok back then and I really dont see a problem with yesterday's parade.

I thought it was a pretty cool thing to watch. I love watching the flyover at the races so it was awesome to see the different fighter planes that we have. Maybe it was but I didn’t see it being politically motivated. I’m USA all the way regardless who the president is and if that offends somebody then they’ll have to just deal with it lol

Yep, that's notorious of him. He is not anywhere near Presidential material.  He only knows money, doesn't have a clue about foreign policy. Acts like a little kid with his rants and raves on Twitter.  He's a one term president.  Never make a 2nd term.

I don't think it's as bad as what the NFL does.  Uses the military and I believe I read somewhere that they charge them for the exposure?

Besides jimmy carter I think all presidents have done a good job. Life is pretty dang IMO if you get out and earn what you’ve got and not depend on government for a handout. I’ve done great under Obama, Clinton, The Bushes and I’m doing great now so IMO Trump is doing a great job just like the rest of ‘em. You ain’t ever going to see eye to eye on everything

I think it was over the top, and kinda felt like what dictators and socialist/communist countries do. Not sure I want to be part of the club that does military parades when the club members are basically China, North Korea, and Russia. We're better than that.

That said, it didn't aggravate me or anything... just feel it is unnecessary.

As for all Presidents using the military this way, I disagree. I've never witnessed a more consistent use of the military to drum up sentiment. Most of the vets I know hate it, and just wish he'd stop. Now vet organizations and retired military personnel are actually denouncing it and speaking out. Don't you think we should at least listen to them, instead of just going "oh well I like it"?

You'd think if vet groups were speaking out about it, and we actually cared about them... we might step back and at least think about if we're going a bit too far with it? I mean, if we do value their service maybe we should value their input too. Just a thought.

Meh.  What about those of us that served and are ok with the parade??  Doesnt our opinion count??

Our vet group just met on Tuesday and as i recall, none of us were opposed to the parade or felt as though our President was over the top.  Now granted, i havent spoken to them SINCE the parade yesterday but I doubt if any of us (32) have changed their minds.  Its funny what ranckles some of us but not others.......mine was George W Bush and his mission accomplished speech.  To me, that one was over the top.

Trump needs better speech writers as I sincerely hope he didn’t write that faux pas riddled speech to include the army taking over airports and it had nothing but victory at Fort McHenry.

I said listen to or acknowledge them, especially if it's groups or organizations of vets and other military vets. Obviously all vets don't agree... again why I said we should at least listen... which isn't the same thing as just doing whatever a particular org says.

I haven't seen, nor have they, Trump or anyone from his administration even try to engage with anyone in the military that disagrees with anything he says. To the contrary, when a vet disagrees he attacks them. Case and point: McCain. Yeah, it's one thing to say you love all Vets... but another to actually say "I like guys who don't get caught"... which was a pathetic statement IMO.

It's okay to not like McCain, but he went after him for being a POW... that's not showing your gratitude. He went after a blue star family that didn't agree with him. That's what I'm saying, you don't have to agree with the vets or military personnel that feel differently, but at least listen to them without trying to call them cowards or attacking their record. Which Trump has done in the past.

I would assume all these orgs or vet groups want is some acknowledgement or statement from Trump or his administration that they understand their views, but feel strongly that the parade is actually a good thing and many in the military support it. But again, at least politely acknowledge them and listen.

I agree southern, the flyovers and show were great, and the "Salute to America" was appropriately done by the President, with the focus rightfully so, on the military..

Also, the 3 or 4 show I had access to last night, the early evening show from the US Capitol was the best, even rolled out the OJAYS...I guess the Beach Boys were unavailable..lol..

Now you're talking about two different things.  But yeah, the sh*t he said about JM, and still does, is WAY over the top........as well as inexcusable and unforgivable.

If we can find some common ground i think we'd both agree that we've been at war for too long.  Some of our boys that are enlisting now were born after 911.  We need to let that sink in.  For almost two decades now, we've been fighting in the Middle East and Africa and what have we achieved??  Three successive presidents have been elected on promises to pursue a more restrained   foreign policy, eschewing nation building and learning from past mistakes, and three successice presidents have delivered exactly the opposite.  Now, these young boys i mentioned earlier will be deployed to a conflict that neither progresses toward victory nor admits to futility and failure.  They will be the latest grist for the grindstone of a seemingly endless war. Now, after all that, is a tank display really that big of a deal??

Ok.....im off my soapbox.  Lets ALL be grateful that we live in a country that allows us to voice our opinions openly.

GO STATE

WE ARE

Totally agree with that Tsuga, it's shameful that 3 presidents in a row have promised getting out and not one can deliver.

If 3 presidents can’t get out maybe they know something that we don’t and that’s why they don’t get out? That stuff is way over my head but I know there’s a lot of scary things that go on in the world and most of us probably couldn’t sleep at night if we knew what was really happening? Thank you JESUS for the United States military for keeping us safe.

Europe and NATO need to start pulling their weight in the middle east, this stuff shouldn't be our problem. We need to focus on our neighbors, countries like Guatamala, El Salvador, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Helping those countries would also drastically help our border issue... but yet we need to deal with $*£√ half a world away

Politicians send us to war and then dictate to us how we should fight their war.

Happened in Nam.

Happened in the 1st gulf war.....Baghdad was there for the taking and we pulled up short. The road was clear all the way there and we stopped.  The politicians said the objective was met.

Ummm...

1. none of the four countries I mentioned are in South America, they are in Central America

2. Of the four, only Guatamala could be called socialist. We actually fought a war against socialists in Nicaragua (Sandinistas) with the help of Honduras and El Salvador and drove the socialists out

3. Guatamala is trying to get out of socialism, they just have no money. It is a very poor country.

4. All four are basically democratic republics, but need help with corruption and gang violence.

So basically... yeah, we can help them because they don't want socialism Southern. LMAO.
