....Rather than kicking the ball off a tee, the scoring team would get the ball on its own 30-yard line in a 4th-and-15 scenario. They could elect to punt, or they would have the option to go for it and keep possession with a successful conversion. Exciting!
A 4th-and-15 play would be a fluid continuation of the scoring drive, and its effect would be downright liberating for fans watching at home.
Getting rid of kickoffs would also encourage teams to take risks. Giving players a reasonable opportunity to retain possession immediately after scoring would make huge comebacks (an extremely desirable event!) more plausible than ever before. Onside kicks allow teams to keep the ball after scoring, but these are even more dangerous than regular kickoffs. The league changed the rules to reduce injuries during these plays, but those tweaks made it absurdly difficult for teams to convert on their attempts.
This to me is a fabulous idea!! Bring it to college football!!!

I like kickoffs. I wish they’d move the kicking team back 5 more yards so we’ll se more kick returns.
nah... I'll pass on eliminating kickoffs for now
If that happens it looks like the game is heading to touch football.

Seems like a pickup game of basketball... Would the team that scores have to bounce the ball to a defender and say "check" before the next play?
What's next?? Pitchers not having to take a turn at the plate??
Dont like either idea.
What kind of air head would think of something like this? Leave the game alone, perfectly fine the way it is.
Good gym class rule.
Ya'll don't see the excitement? Kickoffs have become unimportant. Plus it does eliminate the onside kick danger. I saw first hand how dangerous they are at the title games. Kid laid on the ground unconscious for a long time. some of the most dangerous hits i've seen come on kickoffs. Plus, It makes sense. Why do you have to give the ball back when you score? Could help comebacks....but I guess on the other hand if you cant stop an offense it could lead to huge blowouts.
Could help comebacks? Sounds like looser mentality. Leave the game go the way it is
Option A, leave it alone
Option B, keep the kickoff in place, put receiving team blockers on kick line and replace the tackle with two hand touch or flags.
Option C, eliminate kickoff and place the ball on the receiving team's 30 yard line
Option D, replace kickoff with a punt as in a punt, not a safety kick, from the kicking team's 40 yrd line with a fair catch only and/or fumble recovery.
Next thing you know coming over the middle routes will be banned; there are some violent hits on those plays, like, "holy crap man, he got lit up".

Heard the DJ on WBUS talking about this the other day - did not know it was Goodell's idea. If kick returns were like they use to be, I'd say no way in a heartbeat. But since they are making all these changes to virtually make a kick return a thing of the past, I say I am intrigued. If the ball is at the 30, that means the punt, if they choose to punt, will be kicked from the 22 yard line give or take. Seems to be like you're giving the opposing team much better field position - the long drives to win games are some of the best stories in sports! I can already hear the various arguments for this idea .. move up to the 40yd line, but make it 4th and 20 .. etc etc etc. Might be fun

I agree with this. And they need to get rid of that new "fair catch anywhere lets you take the ball at the 25" rule.
Sadly, I think liability issues are pointing us toward getting rid of kickoffs altogether. So which alternative will be the best? The one listed in the O.P. is interesting, except the scoring team would never choose to go for it except when down big or down late in the 4th quarter. How often do teams choose to go for it on 4th and 15 from their own 30? So, basically, you replace a kickoff with a punt from the 30.
Football will soon be as much of a wussy sport as soccer.
Maybe I missed it, but did they say something about the kickoffs at the beginning of the game and at the start of the second half? Does the scoring team have the option of taking 4th and 15 if they are ahead, or if they're still behind? Pardon men if this has been covered.
WTF happened to my picture?????
Merry Christmas lioninsa. Put that picture back up brother lol
