We have the redshirt rule but with the way things are today wouldn’t it be more fair just to let all players coming in have 5 years total. Everybody playing by the same rules.
I didn’t watch the video yet but I’ve heard the coaches want players to have 5 years to play in 4.
Next thing up; collegiate players will unionize, and that will destroy the game.

You are so right psu61 - will totally destroy the sport we know and love. I live in Happy Valley and have dozens of friends that work for PSU and are unionized. The stories I hear .. omg, workers exposing themselves, caught sleeping, having sex on the job with themselves or others, physically don't work the job they got hired to do, and yet they are protected - can't be fired. The few workers that have dignity and do their jobs are constantly being harassed, called into the office because they get grievances filed against them. 100 years ago unions were necessary - now they just exasperate the failings of bureaucracies like higher education centers and/or governmental agencies.Next thing up; collegiate players will unionize, and that will destroy the game.

@thechinreturns I've managed both union and non-union shops. My take on unions; they protect the "workers" that should be disciplined/fired, while taking dues ($) from the folks that don't need the "representation". Show up to work, do your job, case closed.
My wife had a union representative come in to talk to her residency about unionizing. They said they could guarantee a 4% raise every 3 years and also added a bunch of stuff no one cared about.
She asked a simple question: "We already get a 3% raise every 3 years, so what percentage are we paying for our dues?" The answer was 1.5%... everyone in that room was like...... uhhhhh the math ain't adding up. She told me someone else then said "so you actually want us to take a paycut while costing our employer more money?"
*crickets*
Obviously I have never been in a union as I am fortunate to be a professional that owns his own business...However my father was in a union his whole life...I am a very pro union guy...A union is nothing more than a labor collective to secure a labor contract...My question is why can the executives enjoy the benefits of a contract with golden parachutes and the labor force who actually creates the products and services to produce the wealth of a company not enjoy the same benefits? In my humble opinion that is what is wrong with our economic structure in this country and why eventually this house of cards is going to collapse...You can't have the top brass of a company earning 2000 times what the average worker makes...Henry Ford had the right idea...What good is it to produce a car that my employees can't afford to buy? The minimum wage in most of this country is about 7.75 an hour...Try living off of that...You have people making billions of dollars a quarter and they are going to tell me that you can't afford to pay somebody 75 to 100k a year? Once the balance of wealth gets tilted too far the whole thing collapses as it is out of balance...I suggest reading Andrew Ross Sorkin's book 1929...He has done the best job of explaining what is wrong with our economy at the moment and why he suggests and believes we are due for economic collapse unless changes are made...The reason for the decent livable wage that some enjoy in this country along with the labor protections that still exist is because of Union's...If I was a laborer I wouldn't work unless I was in a Union...I live in a state where Union's are strong and it is no coincidence that wages here are far superior to states where there is a lack of union representation...
And don't get me started with the health care situation in this country...I could really go on about that...I am shocked we tolerate it...We pay the most by far for health care and receive like the 38th best health care in the world...I had a funeral for a 30 year old kid who bled to death in an E.R. He was on a gurney for about 7 hours and bled to death internally...The saddest part is he just had the heart surgery about 2 years prior in that very hospital and to make matters worse his mother is a nurse in that very hospital...I just got back from Mexico where my wife fell and fractured her knee cap...She went to the E.R. and had an XRay, an MRI was treated and home in less than 2 hours...Try that trick here...This is in Mexico...What some in this country consider a 3rd world country...I beg to differ...
@the-funeral-director sorry to hear about your wife falling buddy I hope she has a speedy recovery.
I’m not in a union but I get the perks our union plants get and i agree about the unions. Folks don’t understand how unions do have people’s backs they just believe all the BS they hear on the radio. I’ve been on Roam for 10 years now on how to get the fat cats to pay their fair share in taxes 😂 I love Bud Light but if they can pay a dude to pretend he’s a woman and sit in a bathtub and drink a Bud light they ain’t paying their help enough money and they damn show ain’t paying enough in taxes 😂 I’m sure am glad the Kid called that boycott off though lol
I'd agree with FD, but the unions of today are not the unions of the 1950s. They have become a shell of themselves and are run like political action committees rather than employee protection groups.
Even when they are protecting employees... it's the wrong employees. Education is failing in this country and the teacher union is a big reason why. They protect sh""ty teachers who don't do squat but can't be fired.
Well here is my take on teachers and teachers unions...#1...I was asked about 15 years ago or so to go back to my old high school and be the baseball coach there...I received an email from a couple of my former teammates who were the football coach and basketball coach at the school...They both told me don't take the job because it isn't like it was when we were playing...You couldn't holler at the kids, make em run or do any of the disciplinary measures we went through as players...They said I wouldn't make it...LOL...I turned down the offer based on the discussions I had with them...I just couldn't coach under that sort of circumstances cause I can tell ya I would be hollering and making em run when it was appropriate...#2 There is no way I could be a school teacher today as well...In my opinion the inmates are running the asylum...Our educational issues aren't the school teachers...It's the coddling of these kids...They say how I was raised and coached was abusive and I would argue how we are dealing with these kids is abusive...The #1 responsibility of parents, teachers & coaches is to teach these kids respect, discipline and to provide them with the necessary tools to prepare them to be productive and successful people...You can't do that under today's educational system and we are failing them...I have many friends that are school teachers and what I hear is absolutely insane...I wouldn't make it til the first bell...I would have one of the little shits by the neck and pinned against a wall...You couldn't pay me enough to be a school teacher or a police officer...I guess that is why I do what I do...They say God only gives you what you can handle and the Lord knows I couldn't handle those 2 occupations...I guess I am just becoming an old fossil...I just thank the Lord almighty to have been born and raised the way I was...I actually feel bad for these kids...
Yup, and all that sounds like an absolute failure of the union to adequately protect teachers from what actually matters. All they seem yo do is not fire the bad ones, fight for benefits they don’t need, and make political statements.Well here is my take on teachers and teachers unions...#1...I was asked about 15 years ago or so to go back to my old high school and be the baseball coach there...I received an email from a couple of my former teammates who were the football coach and basketball coach at the school...They both told me don't take the job because it isn't like it was when we were playing...You couldn't holler at the kids, make em run or do any of the disciplinary measures we went through as players...They said I wouldn't make it...LOL...I turned down the offer based on the discussions I had with them...I just couldn't coach under that sort of circumstances cause I can tell ya I would be hollering and making em run when it was appropriate...#2 There is no way I could be a school teacher today as well...In my opinion the inmates are running the asylum...Our educational issues aren't the school teachers...It's the coddling of these kids...They say how I was raised and coached was abusive and I would argue how we are dealing with these kids is abusive...The #1 responsibility of parents, teachers & coaches is to teach these kids respect, discipline and to provide them with the necessary tools to prepare them to be productive and successful people...You can't do that under today's educational system and we are failing them...I have many friends that are school teachers and what I hear is absolutely insane...I wouldn't make it til the first bell...I would have one of the little shits by the neck and pinned against a wall...You couldn't pay me enough to be a school teacher or a police officer...I guess that is why I do what I do...They say God only gives you what you can handle and the Lord knows I couldn't handle those 2 occupations...I guess I am just becoming an old fossil...I just thank the Lord almighty to have been born and raised the way I was...I actually feel bad for these kids...
Rather than, you know, actually pushing back against parents and administrators. They make a good show of it every once in a while for pay raises... but IMO admins are spinless when it comes to parents and the union could not care less about that.
No teachers union in the world can compete and win against a parent or administration that doesn't support them...IMPOSSIBLE...This is a societal issue...The school boards and administrations are too worried about lawsuits and there is no teeth to support the teachers so they get thrown under the bus...These young teachers come in full of piss and vinegar and get beat down daily until they say screw it...Most of the very good teachers leave the profession to do more lucrative things...The older teachers go through the motions and get their pensions...There is a major shortage of teachers because nobody wants to do it anymore...I don't blame them...See back when I was a kid if you got out of line the teacher did what they had to do to get you back in line...Notified your parents that you were out of line and when you got home your father cracked you around a little bit and you knew the score...Today little Johnny or Janie gets out of order and if the teacher disciplines them the kid goes home whining and rather than the parents crackin the kid around to get them in line the parents berate the teacher and the teacher is the one who is disciplined...There little Johnny and Janey didn't do anything wrong...They are little angels...Give me an "F'ing" break...
@the-funeral-director I got my ass whipped with a paddle when I got out of line and it hurt baby. I had to learn the hard way lol paddles were worse than switches.
Nah... I got family that are teachers who are constantly let down by their union, who does nothing when they try to stand up to admins caving. The union doesn't even try... which is the point of a union. To TRY.No teachers union in the world can compete and win against a parent or administration that doesn't support them...IMPOSSIBLE...This is a societal issue...The school boards and administrations are too worried about lawsuits and there is no teeth to support the teachers so they get thrown under the bus...These young teachers come in full of piss and vinegar and get beat down daily until they say screw it...Most of the very good teachers leave the profession to do more lucrative things...The older teachers go through the motions and get their pensions...There is a major shortage of teachers because nobody wants to do it anymore...I don't blame them...See back when I was a kid if you got out of line the teacher did what they had to do to get you back in line...Notified your parents that you were out of line and when you got home your father cracked you around a little bit and you knew the score...Today little Johnny or Janie gets out of order and if the teacher disciplines them the kid goes home whining and rather than the parents crackin the kid around to get them in line the parents berate the teacher and the teacher is the one who is disciplined...There little Johnny and Janey didn't do anything wrong...They are little angels...Give me an "F'ing" break...
Every family member I have in the teacher union effing hates it. They protect crap teachers and do nothing to help good ones. Nothing. Society isn't making the union sit back and not fight. In fact... Society is enabled by unions NOT fighting back... then sees when the union does fight, they fight for BS nonsense like plastic surgery or to protect terrible workers who should be fired
I was like you Southern...I got a lot of beatings...I was a slow learner... 🤣
