Iowa and Michigan State both beat teams that were higher in the standings of their respective conferences.

Iowa (3rd in West) beat USC (2nd in South)

Michigan State (5th in East) beat Wake Forest (3rd in Atlantic)

Iowa was particularly impressive beating the #22 Trojans 49-24

Yeah.  Iowa looked good. They put together a good game plan.

Iowa is very well coached football team. I’m not crazy about the big 10 but it’s hard not to like the Iowa coach because the dude is a class act. That was a great win for Iowa Rock76

It appears that these lower level Bowls mean more to the coaches and alumni. With some  players refusing to play because of NFL draft preparation, the importance appears subdued.

So far the “selfish bug” hasn’t bitten the Nittany Lions and clearly that is a positive reflection on Coach James Franklin.

Now let’s hope Penn State performs better than they did against Kentucky.

I agree.  IMHO Kirk Ferentz is very under-rated and is an excellent coach.  Hayden taught him well!
