And I agree. Give the man a chance to sort through the challenges he is facing. Many coaches are in the same situation.
Of course he's not going anywhere. No top tier team in the country wants him now and his buy out is too great of a burden to bear.
If he had any shred of integrity he would have said that weeks ago when rumors were flying around about USC.
If all true, I view this as very good news. Now is not the time for a major disruption to the program and potential loss of this great recruiting class. Hopefully next year the Oline matures and Yurcich does his magic. We can only hope for a serviceable qb but I don't think it will be Roberson.
Go State, beat Rutgers.
Well, I do like his comment on his 8 year track record, "he has been consistent"......losing the big games!!
Outside of the Ohio State game, I truly believe the rest of the losses were a result of his inability to think on his feet "in the moment". There is no doubt in my mind he has given Yurcich and Pry the power to call whatever they want and he banks on THEIR decisions 99% of the time. Where as a coach like Saban, Day and even Crybaugh intervene throughout the course of the 60 minutes and take control of tight games. Really GOOD coaches can "feel" the tide changing, recognize inconsistent play and identify their opponents weaknesses and make gametime adjustments.....this is not JF's strength and I don't think you can teach this! You either have it or not, get it or don't and JF is the later of the both of the two.
My goodness, Lake! He is not even winning the games he SHOULD be winning this year. Illinois should have NEVER been in that game AT ALL! I hope he has them ready for Rutgers. This would be one of the most embarrassing seasons under his watch if he loses this game tomorrow.
GO STATE!!
I like Franklin and hope he stays as long as he wants. In the last game I have heard multiple complaints about the fake filed goal (failed). "Ba coaching decision". But I heard virtually nothing about the fake punt (successful). Or going for it on fourth down three times in one drive (all successful). Funny how bad coaching decisions are only noticed on plays that fail. I am sure that Franklin has made some bad calls during his tenure at PSU but he has also brought a lot of good to PSU. He also seems to care a bit about the players and their education.
I wish the "fans" that want PSU to be like OSU and Alabama would just go be fans of those schools. I want OSU and Alabama to be like PSU. Sorry, I meant "the OSU" of course.
@psugrad81 I’m a Joe Paterno guy so I probably would’ve punted to pin Michigan back but I don’t have a problem with the call but the fake FG we could’ve strike first and get points on the board. I always like scoring first. The week against Ohio St 4th and 5 around the 50 winning 7-3 was a flat out bad call. It might be me but James Franklin ain’t being himself. We were beating Ohio St and had the momentum why do a stupid call like that especially when you got the lead.

Well said t-hale.
So months after the rumors first started he "reportedly" says he's staying in front of 100 people but has still not said it in front of the other couple million PSU fans?
The man is a snake oil salesman and needs to go.

Good news!
If JF really did say that it most likely means that his negotiations with USC have broken down or they've decided to go with someone else. The Florida job may be opening up shortly and they love JF down there so it will be interesting to see what he says if those rumors start.
Prog
He’d be a helluva recruiter at FL.
I said all along JF has done a nice job at Penn State. Heck, I even think he did a nice job last year. THAT team was on the verge of disaster and he was able to bring them home with a 4-0 run to finish. And yes, we never complain when he makes a BAD decision that pans out. The problem I have is the bad decisions are NOT always panning out and his timing with them is horrible.
The reason Michigan beat Penn State was the simple fact that they kept coming and stuck to their game plan. Penn State was the better of the two teams....and I will argue this all day long. But JF played as the underdog, called plays like an underdog and didn't keep pounding when the momentum was on his side.
I don't care if he stays or leaves. But if he doesn't improve on his game day play calling and build the confidence level back up with this program, we are going to continue to see more of the same. And this 1-0 thing he keeps saying? He should have been saying 5-0 and number 6 is next!!!
GO STATE!
@psugrad81 The fake fg was thrown 5 yards behind the line, the fake punt was thrown 10 yards down the field, big difference.
@psujoe Funny, this took so long; JF to issue a definitive statement he's staying..THis looks so obvious; USC has lost interest..
USC is not interested in 9-3, 8-4 type seasons; they had that in Clay Helton..They aspire for the college playoffs, and competing for nat'l titles..and winning one..
@culture-thrives: Hey bud. Glad to see you're still doing well. I'm guessing JF was " meaning to get around to it". I've used that line on my wife thousands of times. She never bought it either.
This actually kinda pisses me off... so he waits until after his recent loss, when no one would reasonably hire him, to proclaim he's staying. How magnanimous.
@roaminglion exactly right but what does that last word mean lol
@roaminglion exactly right but what does that last word mean lol
It means generous or forgiving... but I was using it VERY sarcastically.
@tsuga Hey man.....good to see your doing well, Ive used the line many times myself, lol
Much sports radio discussion today, on your boy, Miles Sanders..It sounds like he comes off IR on sunday; the coach, Sirianni said he'll start..The discussion evolves over how much he'll actually play, as his subs, Jordan Howard, and Boston Scott have performed well, each gaining over 80 yds in the Birds win last sunday,..I wouldnt know how to use him in fantasy football, which I think your involved in...Ill keep you updated if your still interested..
@culture-thrives: CT!!!! Our FF team is pretty much run by my Grandson. I foot the bill and he builds the team. The minimal amount of money we win goes to him. In saying that, my only stipulation is that we have one PSU player on the roster at all times. The little turd dropped Sanders like a hot potato and picked up Godwin off the waiver wire. Still not sure how he did that. But anyway, we're all good now. Glad to see you're doing well.
Some of the fellow nits mentioned you to newcomer on here (t-hale??). Anyway, we were telling him that we know you're not a PSU fan but you're still welcomed and respected on here as you're a class act.
Stay well!!
@tsuga Sounds like my Eagles season tickets, Tsuga...I foot the bill, and the grandsons plan who attends, LOL..
Thanks for kind words to you and the fellow nits...hope t-hale finds you guys as welcoming and interesting as I do..
@psugrad81 The fake fg was thrown 5 yards behind the line, the fake punt was thrown 10 yards down the field, big difference.
The fake punt was fumbled 10 yards behind the line because a Michigan player blew up the play. Sometimes those guys in the different colored uniforms just don't cooperate with the Lions.

Actually the fake punt was NOT fumbled 10 yards behind the line of scrimmage, it was a successful play for a 1st down.
However, the field goal was an issue IMO for multiple reasons.
1. The ball was on the 2 yard line.
2 We were up 3-0 with 3:29 left in the first QTR. IMO we should have kicked the FG and took the points. If you read the game day chat you see where most were in agreement on taking the points. I said i thought that decision would come back to haunt us later in the game.
3 If we missed the FG they would have taken over on the 2 and been playing out of the endzone.
4 The Fake FG was stupid in the respect that the ball was snapped from the 2 back to the 10 yard line, thrown laterally at the 10 yard line 8 yards behind the line of scrimmage, Stout ran backwards to the 18 (16 yards behind the line of scrimmage and fumbled where it was picked up by michigan and ran back to the 29, 27 yards behind the line of scrimmage!
5 So in summary, we did not take the almost sure 3 points which would have put us up 6-0, or pinned them on the 2 if we missed the FG. Instead because of the dumb play call we gave them the ball 27 yards down field where they had much more room to operate and less distance to go to score.
I would have much rathered them run a play either running or passing from the 2 yd line to the endone rather than a fake field goal 10 yards back behind the Line of scrimmage.
One other thing, even if they scored on the fake FG I would still be of the opinion that it was a dumb risky play call!
