These rumors get annoying, it's like the media just throws names up at a board and says "let's talk about him leaving now".
1. Again, why would Franklin leave PA for LA? Makes zero sense, especially when he'll be making 6 million plus over the next few years here. Even if he makes more, with cost of living it better be A LOT more... and at that point USC would be paying him Saban level cash. That's not happening.
2. To me, USC is a nightmare job right now. So much crap going on there, why would Franklin want to go through another program build AGAIN?
3. USC doesn't need a great recruiter, the kids will always come to Southern Cal. They need an X's & O's guy. A quite simply, that isn't how Franklin is viewed.
I just don't see it happening, but if it did I already know who PSU would go after. Is there any question that we'd offer Matt Rhule the job if Franklin left? Seems like he's be perfect... and unlike Franklin who has ZERO ties to the west coacst or USC, Penn State is Rhule's alma mater.

Yeah, I guy with Franklin's success is not an X & O guy...
Other than that I agree there is nothing attractive about USC...
Franklin is not going anywhere... I agree with Roam, it gets old.
Great coach, great recruiter and is on top of his players and what he expects of their behavior.

All I said was that is the perception of him, and it is. He is perceived as more of a recruiter than an in-game coach. Is what it is.
What gets me is he can’t coach, he doesn’t know X’s and O’s , he can’t get good assistance coaches and yet he’s won more games than any other big 10 coach in the last 5 years recovering from unwarranted and unjustified death penalty sanctions lol. You just can’t make this stuff up man lol

Like I said the perception is a winner, his record on the field and his success says that's a bunch of BS...
What it is is a bunch of people that think they know the X's & O's and they really don't, like I said it's easy to coach from your home or at bar etc. If he was not am good in game coach he would not have the success he has had.
Franklin is an X&O coach and to say otherwise is just ridiculous.
Then pretty much everyone on TV and most journalists that write about college football are ridiculous. Because whenever top coaches are discussed, and what their strengths and weaknesses are... Franklin is always talked about as a premier recruiter who has issues with game management. Some call it X's & O's.
Again, it's not my opinion but seems to be the general consensus of the talking heads in the papers and on TV.
I'd agree with the game management issues, but not so much the X's and O's... Just like you I feel he's under-valued in that area. You don't play Ohio State to 1 point losses and a victory in 3 years without understanding X's & O's. He obviously knows how to game plan, once is a fluke but 3 times in a row is not.
Just watched the 2014 game and man what a bunch of BS penalties lol. It’s the penalties they throw on us in critical situations and it happens all the time just like the Minnesota game lol
James Franklin is just now gettin the studs to play on a fair playing field. Do these idiots understand how hard it is to win 9 games in the SEC especially coaching at Vanderbilt. James Franklin has won more games in the last 5 years in the big 10 than any other coach but I’m sure they’ll try and twist it why he has lol. All coaches have bad games but it seems Franklin is the only one that gets called out and IMO it’s because they don’t like him it’s just politics. Obama did a lot of great things as president and when Trump turns around and does the same thing he gets hammered lol, same crap just fake news. Not talking politics just showing how fake the media is rather it’s politics or sports the media ain’t never happy unless it’s somebody they like.
I know Franklin is not perfect but the people you listed says it all... More than half of those people never stepped foot on a field at a high level or coached at any level. They rely on clicks and the more off the wall they can be, the more clicks.
Like I said I will stand with his body of work on the field, it speaks loud. If someone wants to listen to a paid opinion giver that is fine. I roll with Franklin's history of success. It's why I don't spout that narrative because nothing backs it up.
Could you imagine the crying that would be going on if James Franklin left our QB in late in the game and he got hurt with a big lead like Saban did nitnation lol. They’d want him fired and they would want blood and the first thing these people would say is you wouldn’t see Saban do something that stupid lol

This whole discussion is about whether or not USC will be hiring him as a coach, and like it or not those decisions are made and informed by committees of people with the same make up as the people I mentioned. Some played football, some didn't... and they all got their opinions and the prevailing perception of Franklin is he is lacking in the X & O department.
You can argue this until you are blue in the face, it doesn't change the fact that Franklin is viewed in this manner. You can't change that, and I can't change that. We have our opinions, but we also aren't the ones involved in the hiring search. It is what it is, people have their opinions of him whatever they base it on.
In fact, I'm glad that people view him this way because quite frankly (pun intended) it keeps others away from trying to hire him. LMAO, I want him to stay... I just hope he gets better at in game management, but no coach is perfect and they all have areas where they can improve.
There’s definitely a double standard when it comes to James Franklin and it’s because they don’t like him.

I have no idea why it is, but it's obvious that the guy knows what he's doing. Heck, in 2014 he took the national champs to OT with a sanction devastated roster.
Another games the Refs screwed us. The replay booth said they didn’t have the same view as the people watching on tv did lol. That’s a classic
Again it doesn't matter what they think or their opinion is on Franklin's X&O ability is... The facts on the field state and prove the complete opposite of their opinion. To argue until you are blue in the face their opinion is valid inspite of his success on the field as a great coach is rediculous on their or anyones part...

Their opinions matter because they're the ones with the national audience, and people like them are the ones making the decisions... not you and not me.
