Lanning (Oregon), Sarkisian (Texas). Swinney (Clemson), Kiffin (Ole Miss) and Franklin are felt to be the top candidates....
No he’s not. Bama isn’t that stupid.
Devils advocate here. Franklin is a decent recruiter, he has SEC ties, relatively small buyout and he’s the only diversity hire on the list.
@kularrow James Franklin is an excellent recruiter and a very good head coach. Dude does so many things good just needs to do a little better with QB’s.
Who will be the next HC at PSU if James packs his bags for Bama?
My bet is Alabama wants Dan Lanning from Oregon, he's their #1 gut IMO. If not him, I'd bet they'd go after Lane Kiffin second. He matured a lot at Alabama and afterwards at FAU & Ole Miss. Home run recruiter and a great offensive mind.
I have no idea why anyone would think Alabama would want Franklin.
You give James Franklin the HC job at Alabama and he’ll get a NC. The BS with the flags that goes on in the big 10 doesn’t happen in the SEC. Hopefully things change in the big 10 with the other teams joining the conference. James Franklin was holding his own at Vanderbilt so I’m quite confident that he’d do great things at Alabama.
Lane Kiffin is who I believe they want.

What a load of shit. Elite programs will want nothing to do with that clown. As I stated in that other thread Lanning is the man and is a great hire for them
OK so Lanning is apparently staying at Oregon which is great for them. I guess the next lock for the Bama job will be Kiffin.
@psujoe the man was winning 9 games a year in the SEC coaching at Vanderbilt. Imagine if we were getting 5 to 9 five star players every year at Penn St homer. Alabama is a goldmine with first round NFL talent all over the field. Penn St recruits good while Alabama recruits great every year. Some of y’all don’t give James Franklin enough credit. I believe I read where he’s put 50 first rounders since he’s been at Alabama. The goat Joe Paterno was second with 33 I believe.
Looks like we’re kicking some serious butt in the transfer portal. We’ve picked up 5 pretty good players. The 2 CB should be ready to hit the field running. The OT and DE looks like they will fit right in as well.
That's gonna be a real hard fill to live up to. I'd give the next coach a max of two years to be in contention or out of contention with the 12 team playoff, meaning don't fuck up. What will be interesting is the contract structure.
LMAO James Franklin loses something like 70 percent of the time when his team plays teams with equal talent. He is not and never will be an elite coach nor will we ever sniff a NC as long as he is here. He’s been exposed as a fraud and we unfortunately don’t have to worry about elite programs taking him from us.@psujoe the man was winning 9 games a year in the SEC coaching at Vanderbilt. Some people I talk to says Sandy pampered him.
Bama has enough money to buy ANY coach out of their current contract. They ain't wasting money on JF who can't beat the big boys in the Big10! JF ain't going anywhere until finishes in the top 4 at LEAST two times back to back....IMO
Now, with that said, I think JF got two really good guys in the OC and DC. Are they the best of the best? No, but I think these to guys have enough talent to make Penn State respectable this coming year. I am cool with the defense, yes, we will miss some good players, but I think we have some good guys coming up and enough coming in to hold our own. I also think the Offense will be better. Might take a few games to get going, but I think we will see different offense now. Should be better at WR, at least more weapons, and I think this is what they really needed. Guys who can make Allar feel more comfortable throwing long. Mcsorely and Clifford had some good WR's who were able to make some good catches. Allar? Not sure he really had WR's that could make bad passes turn into chunk plays.
Who knows. New season, new hope and some pretty good returning starters for 2024.
GO STATE!
@mtnittanylion I hope you’re right about Allar but there was about 15 long passes this year that went 15 yards to long. Ole Miss defense isn’t all that good and you seen the stats. I can’t recall DA having one great game against any team we played. I ain’t seeing it and I’ve tried my best to see it. I’m ready for another QB but if DA gives us the best chance to win then I’ll be pulling for him. He just wasn’t good against bad defenses. I’m not so sure we beat Rutgers if #9 didn’t come in and put that game away.
Don’t get me wrong, I believe DA is good enough to win 10 games I’m talking about being good enough to win the NC. Our next step is to win the NC and imo he’s not good enough. Gotta beat Ohio St and Michigan and get in the NC game that is the goal.
IMO there is one trait that QBs need to have to be successful at all levels and against top level competition and that is fluidity. DA is not innately fluid. He is really heavy footed and lumber, not fluid. That translates in to bad mechanics, predictability, inefficiency and effectiveness. Gotta clean all of that up.
We need a QB with moxie. Right now, Allar doesn't have any. Can he find his moxie? To me that is the burning question.
In the couple games I attended that Allar played in I witnessed him make some incredible throws and also a lot of throws 5 feet behind the receiver. Also witnessed him not even see wr’s open for TD’s and go to his 5 yard checkdown a couple times during the WV and Nova games.
I’m really not sure what to think of the guy because he briefly shows flashes of 5star brilliance but mostly plays like a 2 or 3 star recruit,
Anthony Morelli…
Reminds me a lot of Hackenberg...I don't think he has the mindset to be great...He plays not to lose instead of playing to win...Just my opinion...
@psu61 He’s not as good as Moreli today but he’s only started one year so he’s still young and has time to improve. I agree with FD. Hopefully the new OC can prove us all wrong that would make me very happy.

Really going out on a limb there after a 10-3 season. Lmao!
@roaminglion this time next year I hope we all have egg on our face and DA is first team all American and heisman trophy winner lol
