Penn state are 34 point favorites. Otherwise, Franklin is talking about heavy rotation on Saturday, as if Kent State will give defense problems. "Quote", Most noticeably, the Golden Flashes have added firepower on offense.
The headliners are tailback Jo-El Shaw (former high school teammate of Miles Sanders) and dual-threat quarterback Woody Barrett, a former Auburn recruit.
Coach James Franklin talked up Kent, of course. He called them the fastest-tempo offense he's played since arriving in State College. He warned that Barrett could hurt his defense in big ways.
"He's dynamic. You see guys come through blitzing and he stands in the pocket, they hit him, they bounce off. He keeps his eyes down the field, delivers the strike, and he'll beat you with his legs. He’s a problem.’"
Kent State is just enough resistance for another day of learning.
What's the chances ole James throws that challenge flag, once lead gets to 34 😉
Not anyway near as good as you making a stupid asinine senseless nonsensical irrelevant irritating post on the board! 😉
Cultureclub, what about the challenge flag has your panties in a bunch??
Lol, amazing. With a lead like that, 99 out of 100 coaches would just let it go, walk away with a win. What does Franklin do? Lol. Pathetic
Explain to me what was pathetic about that?? Are you a baseball guy that claims there are "unwritten rules" that have to be followed??
One guy coached all 4 quarters until the game was over... The other guy coached 1 half, let his players quit, and got flagged for being an idiot.
Yeah, give me the guy who coached til the end... thanks.
Well put, thank you. Those two above posters were probably singing the loudest a few years back when the "Franklin cant coach" choir was on tour.
Not to worry! The boys chorus is waiting in the wings for a PSU loss. At that point, they'll make their castrato voices heard.
Oh, Im not upset at all Tsuga; didn't you notice my "smiley face" at the end..I doubt you have ever heard me complain of someone (coach) just running their offense, no matter the score..if its a L its an L, no matter the score...Coaches run it up all the time, its not in many cases the coach but the system, a system still widely perceived to award "style points", what with subjective rankings released every week, and the playoff committee watching for now..
But I still think there is some wiggle room for class/ sportsmanship....Throwing a challenge flag up 51-6 with a minute to go in a monsoon is not my idea of sportsmanship...I didn't see that game but for last 5 minutes or so, maybe some event triggered that, I don't know..Sometimes as a neutral observer, I didn't have a dog in the race, you see things differently than fans..To me, that was totally unnecessary
Don't know if you watched NY Jets-Detroit Monday nite...Jets up 48-17 intercepted a pass, returned to about Lions 40, drove to the 2..Plenty of time to score, but then took 4 knees.by QB Darnold..That is sportsmanship, then again the NFL does it right, and resolves everything on the field...
Personally I don’t like it when coaches run up a score but I’m not a coach managing one of the top football programs in the USA with accountability to the school and it’s fans either. You seem to me like a smart guy with skills. Why are you leaving it here? I’m sure you can get an audience with James Franklin to air out your grievances.
When it’s justified run it up, Saturday night in Pittsburgh it was justified and that’s why James Franklin did it.
Lots of opinions on this one. Challenging did nothing for the program and didn’t make the current team better. The only result was in the minds of a large majority of football folks, it was a bogus move. I’m in the group that it was bogus.
The challenge flag was personal. So was running it up. The staffs can’t stand each other. Nardo reported psu for violation for signing a ball we raffled off to benefit the family of the coach that was killed in fla in February, then retracted it and gave us a pitt ball to raffle off. Only 10 bought tix for that one. They won’t appear at the hs coaches conference and speak unless psu coaches are banned from their speaking rooms. It’s ridiculous. It was personal
I doubt it will be a problem much longer, Pitt isn't looking all that good under Narduzzi. Remember when he called out our QB coaching on Twitter, even though we didn't play them that year?
I didn’t know about the stuff you mentioned Murray but I could tell James Franklin was running up the score and it was personal just by watching him on the sidelines. Like I said if it’s justified James Franklin will run it up and I personally ain’t got a problem with it lol
I wasn't a big fan of the decision to challenge the play but after reading what Bill wrote, I (and most people) didn't know about Narduzzi / Pitts actions in the past. I guess at that point it was game on.
Pittsburgh Michigan Ohio st Michigan st I’m all for running it up, them buttholes run it up on us when we’re were under unwarranted and unjustified sanctions as my man livintn would say. Kick their AZZ James Franklin!
Southern, I have no problem with the high scores especially when the backups come in and score. I loved it when Clifford made that TD pass and we had many 2nd and 3rd team players in there.
Barkley took a jab at Pitt this week !
The New York Giants running back took a shot at Pitt on Thursday, saying that despite their best efforts, they can’t call themselves rivals of Barkley’s alma mater, Penn State.
Barkley did so by noting that the Giants’ upcoming game against the Dallas Cowboys is his first taste of a real rivalry.
“At Penn State, we really didn’t have a rivalry game,” Barkley said Thursday, transcribed by Mark Wogenrich of the Morning Call. “Pitt tried to be a rival with us, but I think that we established this week that they do not have a chance of being a rival team.”
The difference in these two coaches is remarkable.
Franklin, well sure he'll take a jab here and there at Pittt. Not saying he doesn't. But he doesn't attack the opposing players. He keeps it squarely at the coaches and the schools he's playing. He then lets his kids do the talking on the field, and he doesn't necessarily run it up... He just coaches fully to the end. If you call putting in the third string quarterback to throw passes "running up the score", then just admit to yourself that you're not a good football team.
Narduzzi? Well then... he'll throw shade at opposing players like Lamont Wade, and also subtweet to a kid who chose Penn State over Pitt "Pride comes before the fall"... On Christmas no less. He'll lie to recruits and say there's a chance of sanctions being levied against Penn State again, and he'll report Penn State for a violation for trying to help people who just suffered a tragedy at Parkland High School. That's the kind of man he is, utter garbage.
I find it hilarious that Narduzzi is so pissed off that Franklin won't acknowledge it's a rivalry. Honestly, it's like Narduzzi is snakeoil: trying to troll Franklin and every turn and getting pissed off that Franklin just won't bite. Narduzzi is just a petulant child crying for attention, and getting more and more unhappy that no one seems to care about his program.
