Wow, a bunch of you folks must be really happy. You will be able to bitch and moan about Franklin for 10 more years. Since that is what you seem to like most in life. you must be real happy.

Hell 81, have you ever read the posts on the 247 audibles board. This is a quite friendly place to Franklin in comparison. They get brutal over there and never look at the crap show going on at many other of the big football universities. I like the stability at Penn State and wouldn’t want it falling into the “fire the coach every 2 years” mentality. Having said that Franklin better start delivering a bit more with the talent he brings in…Hello Offensive Line!
We’ve all agreed to get back on the bandwagon 81 😂
If you're Pro-Franklin, today was a good day (obviously).
If you're Anti-Franklin today was still a good day because of the commitment the university is making to be at the forefront of college football in terms of facilities, financial investment, support. The stakes have been raised.
@nitwit248 Quite right NW, a little something for everyone under the tree this year and it's not even Christmas yet!
Glad Coach Franklin is staying. I am not a fan of the salaries these coaches make but unfortunately, it had to be done.
I have mixed feelings. On one hand it's stability and keeps us from spiraling into a free fall of failed coaches ala USC, UCLA, Miami, Florida, Florida State, Texas and so many more. Franklin isn't the worst coach in college football and has shown sparks of brilliance with the ability to recruit. On the other hand, with his own financial stability, Franklin might continue down the road of mediocrity with 8 win seasons and no Big championships. If he does fail, it will be difficult to get rid of him with expensive buy outs. In the event his name comes up for another coaching job, Penn State is left high and dry to find his replacement. I guess bottom line, I wish the administration would have decided not to restructure his contract and let him go his own way, hire Yurcich as HC, see where that goes and if sideways, begin courting another name.
Might have been a good decision which strengthens the program or maybe a reluctance to admit past mistakes.
Maybe there is a belief Franklin will deliver and the FOMO got'em. (FOMO: Fear Of Missing Out)
Maybe they read or watched Moneyball and misunderstood the concept. 🙂
It will be a short day of work today and the sun will come up tomorrow ...... probably
Have a Fantastic Thanksgiving!

FOMO is a very good point as this plays out in numerous ways with other situations/people/objects. Psychologically it creates a strong appeal to keep or maintain a relationship or object that needs to be discarded but alas once it is recognized that someone else wants (it) then it is hard to let (it) go. You see this behavior playout bigtime during yard sells and auctions.
I believe FOMO is also used by savvy agents prior to negotiations.
These coaches are not motivated by money. Money is a fringe benefit. All these guys are motivated to be the best!
@rip I see what you did there, you have earned an upvote.
Sometimes the FOMO leads to the YOLO (You Only Live Once). I'm thinking about going YOLO on Shiba Inu cryptocurrency but the train may have already left the station now that India is trying to stop their citizens from buying cryptos.
@rip I hope Yurcich stays but if he does leave I’d like to see James Franklin bring Moorhead back that’s if he’d like to come back. I really like Yurcich I believe this dude is the real deal OC just like Moorhead. Looks like more money will be there and money always talks the talk 😂
You know, I was in the fire him camp after the Illinois game and because he just wasn't saying "I'm staying" for the longest time. However, seeing this and understanding what it means has me at least thinking I'm willing to roll with it and see what happens.
Not only did he get a new contract, which I'm not crazy about... but what much of the negotiations seemed to be about was making Penn State a better program in respect to facilities, assistant coaches, and also in respect to how we support the players (new NIL rules and other things).
I can respect that, it's not just a "me, me, me" money grab. To me at least, and IMO... it's a clear sign he wants to be here and is really committed to making PSU a destination job and a premier program. Whatever happens, and whenever he leaves, he wants it to be in a better position to succeed at every level then when he got here.
So that said, I'm hoping he does get us to elite status. I feel we are there academically, as our athletes are always held to a high standard in that respect... now if we can get there on the football field it would be awesome. So as I said, though I'm not crazy about a bump in pay for him... I can respect the fact that it was obviously about more than just him getting paid.
Yeah I agree in the sense that upgrades to facilities, assistant coaches and player amenities, should improve the entire program and be a benefit to the current staff as well as a recruiting tool for future staff and players. I am a realistic optimist and do tend to think though, JF is a problem and if he can't get out of the way of his ACs, we are gonna see more of the same. Its gonna take a proven OC who can carry and throw weight for that to happen and if it doesn't, well you know for sure who's really carrying and throwing the weight. I say that based on my opinion that JF is not an elite Xs and Os guy nor a game clock manager and if he has the OC/DC who is, then I repeat, get out of their way and let them go win the game; I'm just not sure that he can give up that control.
Good grief, Lake!! I would have done it for $50K per year and a hot dog and diet coke at half time....LOL
GO STATE!
I'm OK, hope what he negotiated is good for the program not just him personally.
- $ for OL coach ... if we are right 🙂
- Facility upgrades to stay in the top 10. Maybe pink paint in the visitors locker room...It worked on Roberson.
- Statue found and put back

Sorry, not in the budget… no coke for you… Pepsi!

Truer words haven't been spoken - you are so right on with this 61! Franklin for the most part has been seen as a "CEO" type coach - good at recruiting, marketing, the players seem to love him, but seems to struggle with the X's and O's. He needs to learn how to delegate more and let his coaches coach! If it takes 80 pass attempts to win the game, then do it - don't harness the players. Time for some stability now - hopefully whatever is in this "new" package, all the assistants stay in their roles. Might be fun to see what can happen if OC, LC, QBC, RBC, WRC all stay with the program for 3 to 5 years - too much change and fluctuations have been happening in the coaching carousel - lets really see what Trautwine can do, what Yurcich can do if given the change. Time to (sorry cave) Build Back Better! And yes, those words did come out of a Trumper!
I like Yurcich as OC. I just wish Franklin would butt out and let him do his thing.

I kinda doubt I'll live long enough to see his tenure end. I'm still buying green bananas mind you, but I'm not buying 30 year shingles for my roof either.
I sure hope the guys that plan to bitch and moan for the next ten years change it up a bit. The same lines are getting old.
Im gonna remember and use this quote: "I'm still buying green bananas, but I'm not buying 30 year shingles.." Priceless!
I'm gonna cheer for the Lions and support Franklin, but I'm still gonna call him on bonehead moves. Yep, I guess I'll still bitch ^ moan when it's called for. I'll try to be innovative though and change my verbiage!
