is this a good idea? Will it hurt our mens soccer team? I like soccer ok but I’m more concerned if it will hurt our USA Mens soccer? I do believe there’s a few people out there that wants to destroy sports just by going on what I’ve seen the last few years. It’s only a few but sometimes a few wins?
How can paying the women's team, who have won a couple of world cup championships, the same amount as the men's team, who aren't even in most of the world cups, hurt the men's team and destroy sports?
Good for them!
Not that I have ever watched more than a few min. of any soccer match....other than my grand daughter's games of course. Might have been different if I had played in my younger days, but back then, the was no soccer in school. Hell, I'm not even sure you could find a soccer ball in the local sporting goods store!
@psugrad81 81, I honestly don’t know where the money comes from that’s support the soccer league but if it’s coming from the same pocket we won’t be able to recruit guys from other countries if that’s how we get some of the players we’ve got because they’ll go where the most money is. May there’s enough money to pay both top dollar but the mens league brings in much more money from what I’ve heard. Where’s Roam at when you need him 😂. It’s all good with me but if it doesn’t hurt the mens team why were whoever is paying being so greedy
Ok, the article was about the US men's and women's national teams only. The players for both play on other teams also for money and they play in leagues. The equal pay is only for when they are playing on the US national teams. This has nothing to do with other teams or leagues.
I wouldn't give 2 cents to either the men or the women, LOL. I just don't care for soccer, never did & never will. Just an old farts opinion!
It won't hurt the men's team at all. Not one bit. If the team is going to be any good, the players on it should be talented enough to be making good money overseas. The national team would not be their main source of income.
The women on the other hand, don't make nearly as much with their club teams. IMO it makes sense at a national level to pay them both the same. The men have even spoke out about how the women deserved better pay.
My position is they should be paid what they are worth. How do you decide worth?
1) performance - I understand they can't beat a Div 1 mens college soccer team
2) Entertainment value revenue - again if you want to see the best soccer you don't pay to watch women. So you might watch for sexist reasons or just because you root for the American team and it is one of the best womens teams as opposed to our mens team.
But please stop telling me they should get the same as men. LPGA has the same problem, what are they selling and who is buying?
@roaminglion I’ll take your word for it roam because I have no idea where the money comes from. I was just thinking it come from sponsors and when that’s the case men usually bring in more sponsorship money in sports. Men sports bring in more money than women sports rather it fair or not it is what it is. I always watch the championship games with the women I don’t believe I’ve ever watched a Mens soccer unless I was changing channels and saw it on tv and it didn’t take me long to turn it 😂. I enjoy watching women sports at the college level but that’s about it for me.
@southern-psu-fan lol The money comes from something akin to Bitcoin mining, magic!
Why not just leave it all up to NIL????

1. They are the best team in Women's soccer and won the World Cup 4 times. Would people say Serena Williams shouldn't get paid because she can't beat Rafael Nadal or some other no name ranked #150 on the men's tour?
2. The women's team brought in more money than the men's team over a recent 4 year period, mainly because the men missed the World Cup and the women won it. So considering they had more people watch and made more revenue, why were they paid 4x less?
3. The LPGA is a private entity, not a country. When paying people to represent the country, I believe in that aspect they should be paid the same. I feel the same way about the Olympics. No one is advocating that women playing in the US professional soccer leagues be paid the same as men playing the men playing in US Major League Soccer.
Just my 2 cents
If the tax payers are paying the salaries they definitely should be making the same money as the men. I’m assuming the tax payers are footing the bill I still ain’t heard where the money is coming from.
Tax money is not used to pay the players. The money comes from what the men and women's teams make through tournaments, world cups, etc. FIFA pays a lot for World Cup appearances, and other tournaments pay nicely as well.
The nice thing about this is both the men and women were very happy about the agreement. Actually, the thing the women liked most about the new contracts wasn't the pay but actually the travel, facilities, and benefits that they now have which are on par with the men. I've seen the disparity between the two in the past, and it was quite ridiculous.
Safe to say that when both the men and women are happy with the deal, it's a good thing.
@roaminglion I agree 100% if both men and women are happy then everybody should be happy.
POOSY SPORT !
prog
@psujoe lol Yeah, that's the topic, paying them the same as the men.
How's the fishing been?
Was in the Catskills last weekend and the rivers were a little low but the fishing was incredible. I lost or broke off most of the fish I hooked but have probably never hooked into so many huge wild brown trout in my life. I was also up on Big Pine Creek in the Grand Canyon of PA from Thursday till this evening and did so-so up there, landed a decent amount of stocker size rainbows every day but didn’t get into any of the German browns they put in that creek. Bug hatches were great in the Catskills but non existent on Pine.
