See Link. Thought Campbell is an offensive guy, this scheme (developed with his DC Heacock) was really the cornerstone of his program at Iowa State. Innovative, ahead-of-its-time, but created because of personnel deficiencies that shouldn't be issues at Penn State...so while we had Landon dissect this scheme, it will be interesting how it will be modified (if at all) to handle Big Ten run attacks and whatever players Penn State keeps -- because current guys like Chaz Coleman & Yvan K will not work in this system. If Rojas, Campbell and Tatsch come back, what they were assigned to do under Knowles will be very similar to what they'd be asked to do in this defense.
Idt the 3-3-5 works in the Big.
I'd opine that maybe keeping Knowles for another year might not be a bad idea thinking that MC can work with him and simplify if needed, afterall, MC played D' line in college so has an understanding of D line play.
Sunday morning couch and cup of Joe thought.
@psu61 you better have a boat load of great LB’s if you run it because teams that run the ball good will kill ya and that’s what hurt us this year. It’s a struggling defense imo in the SEC or Big 10 there might be a couple of teams that can make it work. IDK…need a good NT too
I did hear that MC will change things up to fit the players skills he has. The man deserves a chance to try everything he thinks will work.
