See Link. Penn State ranks No. 1 in the Big Ten in rushing offense (230.5 yards/gm) despite its largest gain of the season being a meager 20 yards. The ground game has been methodical, effective, yet not explosive. We tried to ID some reasons why.
That’s some good stuff. We gotta block better!
This game against Illinois will give us a good idea where this team is. Young QB on the road ain’t never easy. Just get out with the win baby and ole southern will be happy.
I am with you on this! This is one of those games Penn State just needs to stay focused, no stupid penalties, no trick plays, hang on to the ball and run over their defense until they can't see any more! Illinois does not have nearly the talent that Penn State has, but they have some good players and you let them hang around until the fourth quarter, that is going to be an issue.
I am not sold on this team....yet. Need some more action against better teams and I need to see better play from the LB's, defensive line closing holes and I want to see Allar making clean drives and not so much scrambling making things happen.
This is a good Penn State team, just need a few more games/experience to get me feeling less nervous!
Go State!
I’m kinda with MtNitt on this one. We should be a very good team but I’ve yet to see it. It’s time for the team that was getting all that pre season hype to start showing up on Saturdays.
@psujoe I’m worried a little about our run defense. I thought LB’s would be getting to the ball quicker but it’s only been 2 games and we didn’t give up a whole lot of points.offense looks as good as it could be considering a young QB. The FG kicker worries me more that anything.
My main concern is the middle of our D line. I guess that goes along with your worries about our run defense, Southern.
Let's be real here...Kansas drubbed this team last week...KANSAS!!!! If this team is anywhere near the team I think they are they should handle this team by 3 TD's or more...They should put up 50 points on this outfit...If they come out and crap the bed and make this game even remotely close this will tell me this ballclub isn't what I think they are...Great teams handle these kind of outfits with ease...This is definitely a yardstick game...We are gonna know about 4pm Saturday what kind of team we have here...

While I agree to a point, I'm not getting into that "this team put up X therefore we should kill them" stuff.
- Last year Tennessee finished #6 in the polls and needed OT to beat Pitt 34-27, and that same Pittsburgh team was beat by 5-7 Georgia Tech.
- Tennessee lost to #1 Georgia 27-14, but were OBLITERATED by South Carolina 63-38
Weird scores happen, lest we forget Illinois of all teams was the school that almost derailed the 1994 team. Of every game on our schedule, 7-5 Illinois was the team that played us to the closest game we had all year: 35-31. "Any given Saturday" baby.
You can't take any ballgame lightly...You gotta always respect your opponent and with all that being said this is a game where they need to go out there and jump all over them early and put em away...This by no means should be a close ballgame...
@the-funeral-director it’s the young QB on the road that’s got my attention. I believe we’ll win I’m just thinking it won’t be a blowout. I hope your right FD lol
They have a porous defense and we have a terrific running game...We should be able to run the ball down their throats and create play action opportunities...They should be able to hang 50 on em and the defense should hold them under 24...If this team has any aspirations of contending for a conference or national championship this is the kind of game that they should dominate...We will know by about 3pm today what this team is...If they crap the bed and this game is close or they lose I don't wanna hear any B.S. excuses...They need to be prepared and go take care of business...

Almost every national champ has close games with teams they should blow out. Sure, a close game would be concerning... but honestly no one would care after we beat Ohio State. Just win.
And they got a convincing win...It was a nice win but they have a lot to work on for Iowa...

I think it’s obvious that untill we find a goto receiver and a deep threat receiver opppsong defenses will be stacked to stop the run. Time for someone in the receiving room to step up and become that guy.
Cephus has been a bust so far.
@psujoe True... I said last week Lambert-Smith feels like a solid #2, but we just dont have that KJ Hamler, Dotson, Godwin, or Robinson type receiver. Even last year we lacked a #1 guy, but at least we had 2 or 3 solid #2 guys.
@roaminglion sadly, there are some highly touted wide receiver recruits on the roster but for whatever reason they are not panning out. Cory Ivey is a guy from my area that was highly touted and recruited heavily but haven’t heard a bleep out of him since he has been on campus.
Anthony Ivey not Cory Ivey
