This is an interesting hire - an outsider to boot!   Any other BIG school I would say great hire ... put Wisky??  I dunno.  I will try to explain my thoughts.  Wisky is a lot like The Nits - a very storied program rich in tradition.  With an alumni base that is hesitant to certain changes that I expect Fickell will want to change - they may be willing to give it a let wait and see approach, but if he isn't VERY successful quickly, I don't think he can survive.  Similar to the stuff Bill O'Brien experienced despite Fickell not being the first guy after the guy coach.  The West division should be exciting with all the coaching pedigree that is collecting there.

I think those days are gone in Wisconsin. They have seen enough of running offenses without a passing threat. Their best team had Russell Wilson at the helm, who added that dimension... and they know it after some really bad years.

Even when they were making the BTC game, they knew their offense was outmatched.

Not sure any fan base has much wait and see patience these days.

Except ours, BT.  Our own NITS regulars are brimming with patience!

@rip haha Maybe 1/2 of them. There was a lot of, Fire Franklin, early in the season. And some grumbling about Diaz blitz packages before the guys figured it out & started to settle in.

After the season I am still a bit salty about some things. I am under no illusions that after Ohio State the competition we faced was average... at best. IMO that had something to do with playing better.

Simply put, Franklin needs to learn how to win a big game. Not a consilation bowl, not against some overranked team, but a real big game. Basically... Ohio State. It took a blocked FG and scoop and score to do it once, he needs to take the next step like Harbaugh has. 2 years now Harbaugh just wiped thr floor with them. His team didnt buckle in crunch time, it was the other way around. They broke OSU when it mattered

I agree with both of you we gotta get our fair share of wins against Michigan and Ohio St. Gotta get better at QB and we can beat anybody in the country. I believe James Franklin and Yurcich made the right call to go with Clifford this year but Allar will be a huge upgrade he just wasn’t there this year as a true freshman but we will see next year baby because it will be his team the next 2 years assuming he’s good enough for the NFL when he’s eligible to enter the NFL draft. Brother, we got a lot of great Penn State football ahead of us. Dang losing that Ohio St games stinks lol
