Smart knew at that’s point it was unlikely the Georgia defense was going to stop the Crimson Tide. The call was high risk but it could have been decisive in helping his team win. Obviously it didn’t work but it was a good decision.

What are you talking about? He could have pinned Alabama back inside the 20 with their backup at the helm. I mean, to say you have zero confidence in your defense when the backup is in is stupid. What, Georgia's defense was done because Hurts had one good drive at that point? WTF?
It was not a good call... by any measure. First Alabama had their standard defense in, not their punt team. Why run a punt fake against a team looking for it with their base defense? Second, it was 4 & 11. If you really have no confidence in your defense, then go for it with your offense in there. Not a punt fake.

He heard the guys breathing. He felt the pulse. He knew the fake punt was the call to make. You fellows are blinded by the cloud of fandom. Now let’s have a real discussion. Who: Ohio State, Oklahoma, or Georgia? I say tOSU. Unfortunately the committee will pick Oklahoma. Georgia while deserving, had their shot against Alabama and lost. UCF will again get screwed.
