First of all I want to say just because these coaches signed extensions doesn't mean they are off the board...The first thing you got to look at when these guys sign extensions is what is the buyout number...If the buyout number ain't more than about 25 million they are in play...You know the school is serious about retaining them when you see a buyout of 50 million or more...That makes it tough for another program to come in and poach them...#2 on my list is please stop with this Manny Diaz nonsense...He isn't even being considered...He is a top shelf D Coordinator but barely an average HC...#3 the kid currently quarterbacking Penn State is far and away better than both Allar and Pribula and he has 4 games under his belt and 3 were against top 10 defenses in the country...The kid has "IT"...He is physically gifted with all the tools a QB needs and has a great feel for and understanding of the game...All this kid needs is time and some GOOD coaching...#4 I am just trying to read the tea leaves here and by no means do I have any "inside" information but I am going to predict that the next PSU head coach is going to be Hartline and he is going to retain Knowles...He is far from my 1st choice but that is who I think they bring in...I would back up the brinks truck and buy out Cignetti and bring him in but I don't think that is what is going to go down...
Maybe ya’ll forgot I’m the one that said DA was the problem and letting Pribula walk was a mistake while all ya’ll did was blame the WR’s. I’m the one that said the ND loss was devastating and unforgivable meaning a change is needed and look where we are today. There’s other stuff to I could throw up but I’m very confident everyone except a couple remembers what I say so I’ll just leave it at that.
If you think the state of PSU right now is all because of a loss to ND or that JF got fired because of the NW game you're lost. And I like Pribula but quite honestly am seeing a lot of potential in Grunk. If we would happen to hire Drinkwitz I hope Beau doesn't follow because that will most likely mean Grunkemeyer is gone.

JUST SAY NO TO MANNY !! The guy was a disaster at Miami and is mediocre at best at Duke. If the "experts" are correct and most of the big name coaches are off the board I have to agree that we need to take a chance on an up and coming coordinator like Hartline and Stein or a lower level coach like Chesney. I still say it's way too quiet with very little info coming out of PSU and nothing but speculation coming from these alleged experts who post nothing but click bait articles. I think we may already have our man but have no clu8e who it may be.
I couldn't agree more with you Homer...I firmly believe the next HC already has been selected and has an agreement signed in principle...They have done a hell of a job concealing who the next HC is going to be and I believe the talking heads are frustrated by this...As I have said above unless these new contracts have a huge buyout they are all still in play...I haven't seen what Elko's buyout is so I don't know about him but I can tell ya that Cignetti's 15 million buyout is peanuts in todays big time college football market...The longer it goes without being announced the more I think they are bringing in one of these high profile guys...The fun part of all of this is the fact that nobody is leaking and nobody has a clue what these guys have pulled off...One thing I think is of the highest priority is keeping this kid Grunk and build the team around him...This kid has the juice...I am very high on this kid...He just needs a quality coach to come in and develop him...I honestly can see this kid with the right coaching and talent around him being a Heisman candidate...I think he is that good...
@the-funeral-director I’d love to hear what info the Kid is getting from Tsuga. Those two have also been oddly quiet and my lone source of info seems disconnected and oddly quiet too.
Hunting season up in Maine, Tsuga is preoccupied chasing a little white tail on the side. Hope Ms Tsuga doesn't catch his ass.

Tell him the rumors and SOUTHERN are out of control and he needs to come in and settle things down.
@psujoe I heard some good things about the N. Texas coach? I have a soft spot for N. Texas because my dad loved N. Texas because he won a lot of money off of ‘em plus I love their uniforms 😂
Dont worry about manny, if he was the man he would already have been named HC. Manny or Fitz is just my 2 choices
Like I said the other day, I have liked what I’ve seen the last couple of games with the defense getting after the QB. I’m pulling for Jim Knowles and I LOVE being wrong if it advantages Penn St football ole southern has more pride in Penn St football winning games than I do self pride in being right about anything dealing with sports….Penn St football comes first! I swear to Jesus Jim I’m pulling for you
What is wrong with Terry Smith as the next HC? Iowa on the road, Ohio State on the road and Indiana at home is not exactly the way any Interim HC would like to start, but he dang near came out of this 3-1.....with a RS FR backup QB. I think he is well spoken, the players are embracing him and he is getting better each week. He is a great recruiter, Paterno bred and I think some of THAT showed vs Sparty. My goodness, Grunk got welcomed to BIG 10 football like NO PSU QB before him. He stepped it up vs Indiana and took control of Sparty. I say, we stay with these two guys and it will be like staring down the barrel of a Smith & Grunk!
GO STATE!!
@mtnittanylion He’s a good DB coach and a good recruiter but I don’t know about HC. I was just pointing out had we won them 2 other games that we had the lead late he would’ve had a better chance of being HC. For interim HC’s to have a chance they need to get the wins and it didn’t happen. Penn St didn’t want him HC anyway that’s why their hand needed to be forced but we lost.
Just heard James Franklin is hired as HC at VT
Problem with TS as HC: There's a point as an assistant coach you are shaking your head and your thought bubble while the ship is going down is, "this isn't working, this is what we gotta do, etc"; and when you get to take the helm, you gotta step up and make immediate changes to right the ship. He doesn't come across as that guy who will tell a DC or OC what's gonna happen, imo. I will say though, whoever made the decision to run KA like the bull he is, made the right decision; but I still don't get not throwing the ball downfield?
Sure the players have played hard for him etc and yeah they beat MS, but damn that should have been a gimme win anyways. Knock off NE and RU with conviction, then maybe a consideration, but that's about it.
PSU isn't giving any leeway to an internal HC to right the ship. Talk about a pressure cooker and microscope!
And PSU isn't paying any $20+ multimillion dollar buyout for any coach without guarantees, and there aren't any.
Next coach is: all of us by committee, lol!
Maybe you missed how the offense had the ball with a chance to win against Iowa, Northwestern, and UCLA... all with time on the clock and didn't do dick. Turnover on downs all three games.@roaminglion maybe you missed the leads we had against Iowa and Indiana he wins them 2 games he sitting at 3-1 right now with Nebraska and Rutgers left. Finishing 5-1 would’ve possibly got him the job but Jim Knowles didn’t get it done so here we are.
But sure, it's all Knowles.
Yes, you're the one that blamed one kid for the offensive problems that still haven't been fixed even with a new QB. Our offense has sucked even with Grunk in. 28 points against 3-6 Michigan State isn't anything to write home about.Maybe ya’ll forgot I’m the one that said DA was the problem and letting Pribula walk was a mistake while all ya’ll did was blame the WR’s. I’m the one that said the ND loss was devastating and unforgivable meaning a change is needed and look where we are today. Last I checked we scores 37 points with Allar against UCLA and the most we have scored since is 28 vs one of the worst teams in the Big Ten.
Such improvment. If anything, the last few games have proven you wrong. DA was not "the problem". If he was, we wouldn't actually be scoring less with him out.
Pribula? Lmao his big game ended in a pick just like you get all over Allar for. Somehow you see proof that Pribula was different, even when he does the same exact thing to lose a big game.
@roaminglion the new QB Grunkenmeyer is a redshirt freshman and comparing Pribula losing to Alabama to DA losing to NW and UCLA is nonsense!
@southern-psu-fan A pick by any other name, is still a pick, regardless of who the other team is. 😉
Fitz will be just as good as Manny coaching defense but he won’t have any players to bring with him. Maybe some will jump back on ship if we get this dude.
Learn to read. I said he threw a pick in a big game at the end. Did DA throw picks in NW or UCLA at the end? No. Were they big games? No. Did YOU say those games were lost by KNOWLES? Yes... but here you are moving the goalposts again. One argument you say Knowles lost those games, now you're claiming Allar lost them. Make up your damn mind.@roaminglion the new QB Grunkenmeyer is a redshirt freshman and comparing Pribula losing to Alabama to DA losing to NW and UCLA is nonsense!
See... it's funny you jumped to those games (when I never mentioned them) and right past Oregon and Notre Dame... which were big games where DA threw picks. See how that works? You see how my comparison actually makes sense when you don't ignore words like "interception in a big game"? You know, like actually acknowledging the games I was talking about and not the ones you want to deflect with?
If Penn St wants Fitz they better make a move because I just read Michigan St and Wisconsin might be interested.
Fitz ain't coming to Penn State...This is another talking head throwing shit at the wall to see what sticks...I am willing to wager that the new Penn State HC is already a done deal with a contract in principle already done...They have done a remarkable job of keeping a lid on this...NOBODY knows except the people who are making the decision and the person they hired...
@the-funeral-director it’s my opinion about Fitz not the talking heads. I’d take Fitz in a minute. I’m just a truck driver that wants Penn State to win football games and championships but looking from where I’m sitting Penn State has dropped the ball they should’ve had their man 3 weeks ago. If it’s as bad as it looks and we destroyed these recruiting classes somebody needs to be held accountable. Florida and LSU ain’t lost hardly anything and we’re getting killed right now and James Franklin ain’t started in on gettin some of our guys in the portal. This ain’t looking good FD but we will see.
If it’s a done deal why not go ahead and throw it out there and stopped the destruction of 2 recruiting classes?
My guess is because whoever they hired is currently coaching somewhere that is in the playoff hunt...Don't fret over the recruiting class...You will be shocked at who comes to State College to play once the dust settles...The last thing I am worried about is whether or not an influx of talent is coming to Penn State...They will come...Relax...
