@roaminglion I don’t know what you’re watching, Allar is very slow and just like Peyton Manning when he was in college. Ain’t neither one of them dudes going to win a game with their feet.

Well, you're wrong.

  • Peyton Manning 40 time: 4.85
  • Ben Roethlisberger 40 time: 4.7
  • Drew Allar 40 time: 4.65

So yeah, maybe we ain't watching the same games because your opinion about his speed seems way off. Manning is even on record as saying he was even slower in HS and college, stating he ran a 5+ 40.

Again, you're wrong.

You don't have to have raw speed to be elusive and be able to make yards with your legs...You think Tom Brady was fast? I think he was even slower than Manning was...You step up in the pocket or side step and roll side to side to help your OLine set up blocks...Quarterback is a very subtle position when it comes to being elusive and effective with your legs...Allar is plenty mobile enough and does a nice job controlling the pocket...He had some happy feet in the Iowa game but seemed to calm down and looked very affective to me...He has great awareness and doesn't seem to rattle...I have no idea why anybody wouldn't want this kid as their QB...From all the QB's I have seen this season I have no doubt he will be the #1 overall pick in the NFL draft after his junior season...So enjoy the next 2 seasons with this kid at the helm cause he is goin to the NFL in 2025 and unless something drastically changes he will go 1 overall...

Also, when you are getting chased you tend to get a little extra kick in speed that doesn't show up against the clock.

Go back and look at what I said and you’ll see I said the exact same thing you did about him going in the NFL draft. All I said he’s not going to win any games with his feet something our QB’s have been having to do for the last 20 years.  Except Hack and Moreli both 5* QB’s

No... you said he was slow and couldn't run. I said he could, and was more like Rothlisberger not Manning to which you said I was crazy.

@roaminglion He is slow and I did say he would be a first round draft pick going number 1

@psu61  DA is exactly what the NFL wants in a QB. He’s got a great future ahead of him. He’s definitely the real deal. Top 5 pick could go number 1 overall

Right there it is

Let’s not anoint Allar as a sure fire #1 draft pick yet. The kid is good and has the tools to be great but he’s not there yet. In fact he’s not even close.

Unless the kid gets hurt or something flukey happens he is gonna go #1 overall when he comes out...Just my opinion...Time will tell...

@the-funeral-director it wasn’t his best game but QB’s aren’t going to play lights out every week.

I can remember the last time you guys spoke of a PSU QB like this and the kid ended up regressing for his final two years in college and became an NFL bust. Like I’ve said, Allar is good but we haven’t seen anything great out of him YET.
In a couple weeks we’ll start finding out what he is really made of.

You won't know how good he is until after this second year.

Personally I couldn't care less where he is drafted or how good he is 2 years from now. I care about how good he plays next game.

I think he will be fine, good time for a bye week and tune up against UMass before the big one.

It would help the kid out if we could run block. The OL is the problem but he did have an average game today. He’ll get better.

@southern-psu-fan it would help the kid and the run game out if we actually had a downfield threat at the wr position. Cephus sucks, I’m tired of watching him playing like he doesn’t even know what the play call is. Hopefully they start looking for someone to replace him in the off week and give that guy a chance vs UMASS

@psujoe I don’t think he sucks but he’s not as good as we were hoping for. We gotta get better at run blocking.

Run blocking is suspect; you could see that in Singleton's face as he was getting up, every time.

There really isn't a WR that any D is concerned about and there appears to be no deep ball threat. Here's a crazy idea, give Rajas a shot at running routes and catching. 6'3"/220, fast straight and laterally, can run routes and ...can catch the ball.

Regarding DA, correct, who cares about next year, that's all about potential.

I've said from game 1... what I wouldn't give for a Dotson or Godwin. IMO it would make this team complete.

Lambert-Smith is a great #2, he's just not a #1 receiver.

He’s not turning the ball over but he’s too quick to dump it off to his safety nets. The pass to Cephas was on a dime and catchable if Cephas were an elite receiver but still a lot of over throws today. Drew really has the potential to be something great but these road games have gotten in his head. You might see him play much better against Michigan than Ohio State this year. He has one bad quarter and everyone is calling for his head lol Pribula can’t throw.

@kularrow  welcome to the nits Ryan. #9 had a good throw today for a TD but Allar is our best QB that’s gives us the best chance to win.

@southern-psu-fan

Allar has missed wide open receivers on several occasions now. In fact, some of his best passes have come when he is scrambling which tells me he is scanning the field more then vs when he is protected in the pocket. I am not sure what he was doing in the first half against NW, but once he got going in the second half he did much better. The good thing is, he has had a lot more spectacular passes than he has bad ones.  No Interceptions and no fumbles - almost had a fumble against NW, but he did a great job recovering it.

Illinois was one thing, they have a stud on defense and the guy was like a one man show. That was good experience for Allar for his first away game and only his second game of the year as a starter. But I expected more from him against NW. I expected more from the entire team against NW.  I know the defense is doing well, but they gave up WAY TOO MANY 3rd and long ( really longs ) and they can't do that against Ohio State, Michigan.  And I can't believe I am saying this, but Maryland too.

But then again, a lot of other top 10 teams are not setting the world on fire and Penn State has dominated everyone they have played so far this year.

GA - down 14-3 at half against SC and 10-0 against Auburn

Mich - their best win is against a 4-1 Rutgers and they fell behind in that game 7-0

Texas - two good wins!! If they take down OK, they may be the best top 10 IMO

Ohio State - pulled out a win against ND, but they probably are in the same boat with PSU at the moment.  ND is lucky to only have one loss, but we will see just how good they are over their next two games. That will tell us more about the Ohio State win.

FSU - struggled against BC and Clemson -

Washington - who have the beat?

Oregon - had to rally in the 4th quarter to beat Texas tech

USC - their best win is against Colorado and they blew a 20 point lead and almost let them back in the game. The rest of their wins are not impressive ones.

ND - Lucky to only have 1 loss, could be undefeated, could lose the next two. But hey, at least they aren't playing a bunch of chumps right now.

My point is, outside of Texas, I don't think any other Top 10 team is doing any better than Penn State through 5 weeks. Illinois and NW gave Penn State a game for a LITTLE while, but Penn State was NEVER in trouble in any of their first 5 games.  Maybe sleeping some, maybe dropping some easy passes, maybe taking a little too long to wake up, but when they do, they just get it done! The Offense has three weeks before the Ohio State game.  That is plenty of time make some adjustments, look at film and see where they can get better.

I want to see what the coaches ( and team ) do with this bye week.  I know their next game is against a bad UMass team, but they still have to make good passes, open up holes for the running game, catch passes and  not give up 3rd and long plays when on defense.

GO STATE!!!

@mtnittanylion  the bottom line is people need to understand that the other team has good players and they’re trying their best to win. Most top 35 teams have really good players but teams like Penn St, Georgia and Ohio St have more better players and more depth and that’s why they always usually find a way to win. Teams like Maryland, NW and South Carolina get tired late in the games.
