Ever get tired of arguing about the college football playoffs.
There is nothing really to argue about...The whole thing is a farce until they open the thing up to honest competition...They won't do that because it will expose the whole thing for the fraud it is...
They are literally talking about moving to a 12 team playoff, and it is considered very likely to happen.
So why would you say "they're not likely to open it up"?
Personally I think We will see an 8 or 12 team playoff in the next 5 years, hopefully more like 2 or 3
Why hasn't been a 16 team playoff all along? They do it in EVERY other division in College Football? They said they MAY meet next year to discuss it...I don't think it is coming any time soon...They cancelled the meeting this year...I don't think the powers at be want it...They also mentioned that they don't want one network dominating the scene either that they want to break it up amongst all the networks...I don't see anything changing until the current contract with ESPN is over...

I don't know, why don't you go back to before ESPN even existed circa 1978 and ask them why they were letting ESPN tell them not to have a playoffs for Division 1A when setting up playoffs for the lower divisions.
I'm amazed ESPN has that much influence, even before they were formed!
Well I know the answer as to why they preserved the Bowl's...M.O.N.E.Y...Again...Follow the money....Back in those days the bowl structure was VERY lucrative...It took ESPN's billions to break up the old bowl structure to even get a 4 team playoff...The Rose Bowl and the major bowls back then were netting 6 million plus which was a lot of money back in the 70's and 80's...That's why there never was a playoff back then...
Sorry to do this in 3 posts but if you recall back in the late 80's or early 90's it was proposed to turn the old bowl system into a playoff but that got tabled...I remember the excuse back then was that it was too hard on the kids and that these kids are student athletes and it would have been too much of an academic hardship along with the extra games...Even though the lower tier divisions were doing it with no trouble...

LMAO So is ESPN evil or not?
"It took ESPN's billions to break up the old bowl structure to even get a 4 team playoff"
So They at least broke up the system and moved to a 4 team playoff, but now they are a sham too....
The funny thing is you keep saying "follow the money", however everyone who looks at the financial impact of an expanded playoff system says the same thing: It would absolutely bring in more money.
ESPN broke it up to serve it's own purposes...At the time the network was in some trouble because of how the cable companies were reassessing their subscription services...I don't remember all the details but they bought college football to more or less save their rearends...Make no mistake about it that ESPN doesn't have control over this thing...They are going to preserve their business interests and their business interests are tied to the SEC and ACC channels...The B1G, Pac 12, Notre Dame etc...are the competition...ESPN had a backdoor hand in Oklahoma and Texas bolting to the SEC as well...That is why the Big 12 commissioner and Baylor and Oklahoma State's president was so up in arms...
Man Oklahoma and Nebraska butt got licked before espn come along with garbage schedules then Florida St and Miami put an end to it with total butt kickings on both Oklahoma and Nebraska
