Return and report.  Maine's season ends tomorrow.  Pa's rifle season ends tomorrow and I think New York's has or does also end tomorrow.  How'd everybody do??

I shot a nice 8-point up here and a decent 5 point and doe down in PA.  I still have a bonus tag for a doe up here.  Our muzzle loader season ends tomorrow, storm's on its way in the morning; barometer is dropping!!!  Could be an exciting evening hunt, but here I sit at a warm kitchen table typing to my fellow nits.

It's 9 degrees outside right now.......

Nothing for me.  I'm not able to get out and hunt as much as I'd like to.

Pushed a mule deer rack lookin' 3x2 buck to my ex coworker during the 1st week. Passed on a 4 pt Weds, passed on a cow in my garden last night 'cause I had to be to little Suzy's for dinner and I really hate skinning a cold carcass. Neighbor missed an 8 this morning while I was at the VA getting MRI'd. Tomorrow is suppose to be 60 mph gusts and rain. Will give it a shot Sun morning. & yes, that's the last day for regular firearms. Muzzle loader, bow & cross bow open back up for a week or so and then again week between Christmas and New Year. The last is new, has all the sledders worked up 'cause they aren't allowed on state trails until after season is over. But typically there's not much snow before then anyway.

So yeah, got skunked again unless I tag one Sun.

@been-there-ii: I hear ya on skinning a cold carcass. I try to get the hide off asap.  Its SO much easier.

NL: Bite me

WNYL: That's exactly how im hunting today.  We have about another hour of daylight left so here's to hoping a baldy roams too close to our parsnips.

NL: Yeah, you read that right.......Bite me.

@tsuga Uuuum, Tsuga, I believe it's, Bite me, Sir! Small wonder why my ex-plant manager didn't like Marines. Now he was a real Richard Noggin!

Re:skinning, lets the meat cool quicker too. They don't hang beef in the slaughterhouse w/ fur on 'em! You use the golf ball, rope and tractor technique for skinning? Works pretty slick. Toughest part is getting the rope tight enough to not let the ball slip out. https://www.petersenshunting.com/editorial/how-to-skin-a-deer/272842

@been-there-ii: Hell yes I've tried the golf ball trick.  A few buddies of mine, too many beers and rope that should have been retired many years prior. Things were going well right up until the damn rope we used to tie off the head snapped and drug one guys half-skun deer thru the mud and leaves.

So on the second deer and a few more beers we strung another buck up by the rafters and gave it another try.  That time it worked really well and the hide came right off. We pulled that deer pretty much straight out and when the hide finally let go.......well....can you imagine how much momentum a buck picks up on the back swing??  It was enough to knock one skunk drunk SOB right thru the garage window.  Never tried it again.

NL: please accept my sincerest apologies for my lack of respect towards you.  "Bite me, Sir"

Got a fat one rolled and listening to Rush right now.  "As you were men, smoke 'em if ya got 'em"

Nothing!!! Only got out twice, been working like a crazy man and fishing in Florida all but two Saturdays of the two week PA riffle season.

However, yesterday morning I saw my first Coyote in the wild. Walked 10 feet past me. I was on the ground, never heard him and didn't see him until he 10 feet past me.  I was free lunch if he was hungry!!

Are coyotes known to attack adult humans? I see their tracks in my backyard all the time and I don't live in the country. Naturally I would never leave my grandkids unattended for any reason.

Not aware of attacking people; but I've observed a female trying to pull my male into a lay in waiting pack while hunting Huns in SK. Fairly brazen in that it took a couple shots to run them off.

@lakerie Haven't heard of many, if any attacks on humans, unless the coyotes were rabid. There have been local reports of people getting "attacked" while trying to protect their dogs. Out here in the country they're pretty skittish, but according to local news, they get real brazen in town/cities, where they get accustomed to being around people. Kinda like deer, they learn to adapt just about anywhere.
