Changing their name
Tsuga, it's ended already....if you get my drift. Such a shame.
Hi from Ahia. Just Cleveland ... period. C on the caps and shirts or Cleveland. Period. Apparently only Florida State has done it right ( maybe Utah ) by talking to the Seminole people about how to do it and keeping things respectful and honorable. I think our indigenous people were a gift. No jokes here. They respected the land and probably if in charge would be infinitely better than what we have now. I wonder how prevalent or deep Joe Public's knowledge of America's indigenous peoples will be once all reference is eliminated. I agree it has been disrespectful, but would there not be a way to meet with reps for the various nations to do it in class way. I grew up in a very small town in the Poconos which had a Lenape ( Delaware Indian ) village at it's base for millennia. Few now know it even existed although the High School nickname is Warriors ( which I think is PC ok ). In my work career I met an associate that I learned was a Lenape. We had a nice talk. He told me how they had faded into obscurity. Geez !!
So .. Cuyahoga Crusaders, CIPs ( Cleveland Indigenous Peoples --- respectful ), Cleveland Ahians, Rock and Rollers, Snowbelters, ........
Yeah, I get how "Indians" has kind of evolved into a disrespectful term with the whole Columbus day thing too. Basically it's a name given to them wrongly which is still used today, even though we know this isn't India. LMAO
Weirdly enough I feel the Kansas City Chiefs is actually a respectful name, as is the Braves because neither considered a slur or disrespectful term... but an honorable one. It will be interesting to see if those teams change as well.
It's nowhere close to being the end, it won't end till they achieve their goal of re-writing history and the constitution.
@tsuga...We agree again Tsuga, dont worry, we'll clash again But this nonsense has to stop..But if out of habit, and nothing else, Im s till calling Washington Football team, (arent all NFL teams football teams) the 'Skins, and will continue to call this team the "Indians"...or how 'bout their alternative name, "The Tribe"

I believe "Nittany" is an anglicized word from a native word (or words) meaning "Single Mountain"

Level with me CT, Do you find "Fighting Irish" offensive or for that matter, does anyone??
I'd be ok with the Tribe. Do ya think Oregon State should change their mascot cause it offends the women's basketball team??
