Guys I’m for only power 5 conference champs in but this is what they give us.
The only problem with that Southern is the fact you could have a 7-6 record and be a conference champ. Do they get an auto berth into the NC playoff? Lets says if another conference had 2 undefeated teams play - you are saying the loser at 12-1 should not get in, but the 7-6 conference champ does???? IMO they just need to eliminate conference championship games, re-subdivide all the teams and create new divisions with equal number of teams. So hypothetically you'll have 16 divisions that will have a division champ that gets automatic berth in 16 team playoff format. Like FD says, lose and go home - win and you advance - you know, basic sport rules that everyone has understood since the dawn of time. The teams that don't make the playoff can form a B league bracket if they want, or just play additional games to get fans in the stadium for revenue growth. Another opinion for a different thread would be to create a whole new league ... there are too many teams in FBS IMO, so instead of FBS and FCS, split that into 3 leagues with each having a 16 team playoff.

@shankalottapuss people won’t really complain if it’s 4 conference champs fighting it out on the field knowing they had to win the conference championship to get in the 4 team playoff. This will keep 2 teams from the same conference getting in as well, that’s something most people don’t want but under the system we have now. you sometimes have to take 2 teams from the SEC because like this year 2 of the best 4 teams is in the SEC.
