@been-there-ii as a teenager we had a corner bar that would serve us underage. They would sell us Genesee & Genesee Cream Ale. I was know to drink my share of Rolling Rock Ponies as well. The Cherry Tree a bar we frequented had .50 ponies on Thursday nights! I remember Schmitz as well as Shlitz too!!

Ah yes, I remember those days well.  We had several establishments that would serve us under-age drinkers.  Keier's and Bavarian beer went 3 quarts for a buck!  They were competitors of Yuengling in Pottsville and eventually went out of business.  Also drank some Schmitz & Shlitz as well as Rolling Rock, Schaefers, Miller High Life, etc.  Those were the days!

Yes Sir, born and raised in Wyoming Valley, Kingston actually, went to Wyoming Valley West K-6 the Bishop O'Reilly High School (formerly Central Catholic) 7-9 then West Side Vo Tech 10-12. My Grandpa used to work at the Bartels Brewery then later on opened a Seafood restaurant in Hanover Township.

I left for the Navy in 1984 and never moved back.

I believe

1) it is still federally illegal.

2) My company and many others have testing and if you hit a limit for it or alchohol you are gone.  Personally I think we should help our people but we also have safety related jobs.

3) it is an entry level drug.

4) People that break laws lack certain positive atributes including being self centered and not team centered.  He broke the law, he is accountable to the team and should receive a consistent punishment.

5) There are places that have legalized drugs and I think the results are clear.  Is Holland a good example?  It will damage our society.

That being said I have a bit of a libertarian attitude but give it to a kid under 18 and you spend time in the big house...the one worse than UM.

I can say I've done WAY more stupid stuff under the influence of alcohol, than I have smoking a little weed.

If he was caught drinking underage, would there be as much criticism? And who here didn't have a beer or Boone's Farm back in the day, before they were legal age?

Let he who is without sin throw the first stone.

Boones Farm, Malt Duck, MD 20/20, Thunderbird, Black Label, Mickeys Big Mouth, Little Kings, pony Rolling Rocks ... ask the dude to buy two bottles, one for him, one for us, those were the days, lol.

I'm not sure I get you points...

1. "It is an entry level drug" - I believe this is the "gateway drug" argument. Many studies routinely show people who do marijuana are no more likely to do heroin or any other heavy drugs. In fact, people who are prescribed pain meds like oxycontin and others are more likely to become addicted and escalate. The people who say other studies show a link between marijuana use and heavy drug use always fail to mention those were mostly smaller studies and never statistically significant. In other words, more research exists to the opposite.

2. Holland? You mean the country which is consistently rated among the best places to live in the world? Not sure why you consider the Netherlands an example of a terrible place. It's happiness index, economy, healthcare system, and education system are all rated very, very highly. ???????

3. "People that break laws lack certain positive atributes including being self centered and not team centered.  He broke the law, he is accountable to the team and should receive a consistent punishment." - If this was true, then in the 1920's most of the United States lacked positive attributes and was self centered. Which is ridiculous, because of course they weren't. But that statement would have us believe everyone buying, selling, and drinking alcohol back in the 1920s (most people in the USA) lacked morals because it was against the law. Context is key.

4. Portugal legalized almost everything back in the early 2000s, and their rates of drug use and drug-related deaths plummeted. The are now both well below the average of other EU countries. Also, employment went up.

...but I digress.

Did anyone think he is not a citizen of the US.  I believe he is here on a visa, think of what that can do to him.

@cohappy My dad graduated from Hanover my Mom from Meyers. My Grandparents owned the Parkway restaurant on the San Souci Highway across from Air products and Heavenly Shoes up until 1979. Most of my cousins graduated from Hanover. I remember walking down the highway and up that steep ass Molonoski's hill to watch Hanover wrestling matches with my cousins!

@cohappy did you know a guy Mark Metcalf, everyone called him Met? Or how about any Barretts? John and Pat graduated before you and Sue and Kathy after you, they were probably Freshman or Sophomores the year you graduated.
