ND and Chip Long part ways, Does PSU make a run at him? should they make a run at him?
I believe James Franklin already knows who he wants. Didn’t he say one time he keeps a list nitnation? Yes I think so nitnation
Yes, you think Coach Franklin keeps a list or yes, we should go after Chip Long? If it's the latter and to Nitnation, why? IMHO if he wasn't good enough for ND, he's certainly not good enough for PSU....contrary to what CT thinks.
I don't think he was not good enough for ND.
Long has helped Notre Dame go 32-6 with a trip to the College Football Playoff in 2018.
Notre Dame’s numbers were up significantly in 2019. After tying for 47th at an even six yards per play in 2018, the Irish averaged 6.25 this fall (33rd). The club’s scoring average grew from 31.4 points a game last season to 37.1 in 2019.
Long is an OC you can give the keys to the offense and not have to worry...
Yes James said he keeps a book on coaches etc that he follows closely. He may very well go to that book and we never really know whose name is in it.
I really like this idea particularly using a 2 back set more often which I have been thinking all year would make sense
20015, '16 & 17 ND had better recruiting classes than PSU, so you'd think they'd be a bit better ranked. But yes, offense isn't the only thing that wins games.
Agree 100%
It's a total team game... Our losses this year were a combination of offensive and defensive breakdowns.
First thing Sandy should had the blank check to Franklin not the other way around.
I think something that builds on the changes Rahne made by expanding the design Run and pass plays, I wild love to see a screen game added and multiple rub routes to get players open so they can RAC...
I don't care one way or the other if under center plays are added, they are not a make or break item.

Agree find more ways to get the playmakers in space and yes under center I could care less more options not under center.

Ohio State: 1 back set / Spread with RPO elements
Oklahoma: 1 back set / Air Raid / some RPO elements
Clemson: 1 back set /Spread with RPO elements
LSU: 1 back set / Spread with RPO elements
Seems one back sets and RPO schemes kinda work, no? I mean, just look at who's in the Playoff and it tells you what you need to know about RPO single back sets. You're looking at some of the better offenses seen in modern history, and all of 'em use one back sets and RPO.

Absolutely they work would never argue otherwise. There is more than one way to be successful, no? Does it hurt to have 2 playmakers behind the line of scrimmage from time to time? My want for the 2 back set is simply because of talent PSU has at that position AND more importantly it could be used to offset oline “issues”.

Here's the thing, the more and more you pile on to the playbook them more confusion and lack of understanding there will be. I know that adding a two back set seems simple, however it's anything but. New language, new formation, new plays, new concepts, etc.
Multiple formation sets is a lot to ask of college kids with 20 hours a week to practice. It's pretty much why every team sticks with one formation most of the time... In NFL they do use multiple sets, but have infinitely more time to learn and practice them.
Perhaps a two back set would work well for a gimmick play, but IMO to be viable you'd have to run a lot of different plays out of it or the defense would know what's coming every time you ran it anyway.
IMO that’s why we don’t take snaps under center it’s just something else to practice. I keep telling everybody on PennLive and here it ain’t going to happen but if it does I’ve had it lol
I would bet the playbook is bigger than what it appears most of the time already maybe switch some things out. If you look at the last 2 games against OSU was a lot of max protect formations which was damn smart and needed to be and of course against Rutgers seemed like one page with Levis in (again made sense to me under circumstances ).
You are 100% correct you can only have so much but unless you start getting oline play like those playoff teams do I think you have to be more creative with quick hitting plays to playmakers.

We were not in max protect against OSU... A specific complaint EVERYONE had was wondering why we didn't double team Chase Young all game. If we were in max protection, I can guarantee you we would have been doubling CY.
That said, putting in new formations is very different that putting in new plays. Sure take out some plays and put some others in... if you stay in the same formation with the same concepts that's fine. However, I don't think you quite understand how much more difficult it is to teach and learn a completely different formation than just a new play.
As for quick hitting plays to playmakers, that has nothing to do with formation. You can do that out of any formation, especially out of the RPO.
Call it what you want most time until very end they ran tight formations with few routes in passing game to help with blocking. And maybe the 3rd time will be a charm of me repeating myself I understand putting in new formations is not easy I’m talking about next year with a new coordinator you know there is an off season and teams do change things....
Now I know you’ll have a rebuttal and like to get the last word in as your 3k posts suggest as much. Good talk 😊 😊
