@roaminglion Negative. What I have proposed are 4 games to open the season, a bye-week, and then a 7 game tournament with a clearly defined champion. Following the tournament, the 12th game would be rivalry games. The Student-Athletes would then have time to complete their studies and prepare for the bowl games. If they decide to opt-out at mid-season they are sending a message to the NFL teams about their loyalty and commitment.
What I have proposed is out-of-the-box thinking that provides an opportunity to all and places a premium on performance for all involved - players, coaches, administrators, officials, and the NCAA.
"Important" Conference games can be played during weeks 1 through 4 and the good news is that the results don't matter with regard to the tournament.
Think about the excitement every Sunday as the pairings are randomly determined. Think about the debate during the week as the teams prepare to face opponents they do not normally see. Think about the drama building as the viable teams are reduced week by week. And at the end of the year, a school can still claim some pride by beating their rival or winning a bowl game.

1. Not one team in the NFL will care about loyalty, they sign contracts
2. Why the heck would any player care about playing a rivalry game after the tournament is over
3. Why would you even have conferences if you're only playing 4 games
4. You have effectively just created a preseason for a tournament. that's it.
The opt-outers are bringing about a much needed change and we owe them tremendous debt. With today's electronic media and players standing up for themselves we could quickly see a time where everybody opts out. A strike to force a real play off system. Power to the players!!
I believe anything that hurts college football hurts the NFL so imo they need to work together and come up with something that’s good for College football, NFL and the fans. IMO just keep it as is because most of the players want to play. If it’s possible maybe pay the players a little bonus money instead of the gifts they get?
This is quite simple...Do it just like all of the other divisions in college football do it...16 teams seeded from 1 to 16 with the higher seed hosting the lower seed all the way to the championship game which is played at a neutral site...This isn't rocket science here...
@the-funeral-director That's too simple, the presidents and ad's would never approve it.
