I would be ok with expansion and extending the playoffs from 4 to 8 teams or better. Not sure if this solves all the moans and groans from the fans.
Fans will always groan. The hot button issue now is the high number of players opting out. I understand why but I’m disappointed that so many bowl games have turned into exhibitions. I wonder if Franklin will use both quarterbacks Saturday as a way of seeing who really is best under game conditions.
In defense of at least the mid tier bowls, the Music City bowl with Purdue/Tennessee game was very well attended and not just with Tennessee fans. The Peach bowl with Pitt and Michigan State looked pretty full. Both were really good games too. Not making a statement here, only an observation.

I think a 16 team tournament would be awesome.
Opt outs always was, always will be. Why did sports media suddenly find this as a problem.
@lakerie lake I just spent 20 minutes typing and erased the post because I thought it might have politics in it when I didn’t mean for it to. I type slow brother lol. I’ll say it like this, leave the kids alone that want to play in these bowl games because most of ‘em want to play because there’s some great perks for the players. All these young men aren’t getting million dollar contracts Just enjoy the games that’s what I’m doing and it’s fun.

Considering college football has been around for over 100 years, I think it’s fair to say opting out is a recent phenomenon.
@southern-psu-fan Oh sure Southern I hear ya. Matter of fact, I watched both the Music City Bowl and the Peach Bowl from start to end and enjoyed both REALLY GOOD games. I'm not a Pitt fan per se but I don't hate them either, felt bad for them in the loss.
Um .. Mr. Lake ... if you read the fine print in the membership section of this fine fan forum, you will see a requirement of hating sPitt. Don't let Cave see that last comment! lol

I also don't hate sPitt, i just find them irrelevant and insignificant and don't care if we never play them again.
If a true National Champion is desired, then the way to go is a 128 Team Playoff (see the attached files). Also, several rule changes have to occur and the refs have to enforce the rules. The "let them play" idea only results in one team getting an unfair advantage. If a hold occurs, call the hold. Eventually, the players will stop holding.

@lakerie Unfortunately, there would be issues which can not be eliminated but a 128 team tournament with pairings based on a random draw of the teams within each Tournament Loss Category would eliminate the subjective rankings. Zero Loss Teams would only play 0 loss teams. A team with 1 loss in the tournament would be randomly paired against another team with 1 loss in the tournament. The record before the tournament is irrelevant. When a team loses, they drop to the next bracket. The flexibility needed to execute the 128-Team Tournament was proven last year. To help with fairness, the rules would have to be re-written and the officials would have to be held to high standards. Fairness, opportunity and excellence ..... who would ever argue against those ideals?
@psujoe The tournament takes 7 weeks and replaces games during the season. The teams could play 4 or 5 games before the tournament. I have attached a photo to this post.
Nope, just do it like they do in pee wee ball. play your regular season and hold your playoffs, keep it simple. Conference games only, followed by conference championship. Conference champions go to the tournament. I threw out in a different post to have 6 at large bids just because...forget about it. Force the issue, join a conference or don't play; self induced death penalty. There are currently 10 conferences, change it. Create 16 conferences and take the Conference champions and seed them based on after season SOS.
@psu61 And then the team picked as the #1 seed will eventually play the team picked as the #2 team for the championship.
The only solution is to take the subjectiveness out of the process with regard to the selection of the opponents and the execution of the game. This includes taking the subjectiveness of the officials out of the process. If a player commits a hold, the player is penalized regardless of whether the official thinks the result of the play was influenced or not.
What I have proposed is simple and fair. If a team wins, they stay in their current bracket. There would be a pairing conference every Sunday during which a random selection process would be utilized to match opponents for the following week. Teams would have 5 days to prepare unless scheduled to play on Thursday or Friday. Multiple loss teams could play on Thursday or Friday since they are no longer in contention for the Championship.

What you have proposed would obliterate any meaning of college football. Rivalries gone, pagentry gone, players opting out halfway through seasons, etc.
