Anyone? Sabon, Fisher and Sweeny have the biggest buyouts in College football. Franklin is at $12M and then it drops to $4M. I assume this was something JF negotiated? Sabon, Fisher and Sweeny appear to be more committed to their programs vs Franklin?
I don't quite understand the buyout clause, but it seems to me the higher the buyout, the less likely THAT coach is going anywhere on their own.
Any experts on this????
JF goes 10-9 over 2 seasons, rumors start about other schools being interested in hiring him and those in charge panicked and signed him to probably the dumbest coaching contact in the history of Penn State University. Barron and whatshername (our AD) couldn't care less as they're both most likely retiring in the spring and they just flipped the middle finger to everyone that cares about PSU football.
JF now controls all the shots moving forward, if he feels like leaving it basically costs nothing to be bought out and if he's fired the university owes him $$ and can't afford a top tier coaching prospect.

@psujoe I would’ve let him walk but that’s water under the bridge now we have to get behind him and hope he gets back to his old self of good coaching and winning football games. We’ve give up the lead 3 times this year in the 4th that needs to be addressed asap and get that crap fixed. Yurcich is the real deal I believe he’ll get the offense fixed.
@southern-psu-fan Remoh won't be happy unless we win the college football championship AND the Superbowl every year. If PSU did do that, then he would still wouldn't be because it was Franklin coaching the team.

Sorry but Remoh is happy with winning the B1G East but doesn't see it happening for 10 plus years. OSU is lightyears ahead and meatchicken just passed us.
Someone has to be the realist and I'm proud ti say it has been me.

I agree with Homer on this one...He would have had a 40 million buy out year one and it would go down 4 million per season til he fulfilled the 10 years or they fire him...A 4 million buy out this day and age is a joke...Why bother...He more or less can pull this again in 2023...It really was a stupid contract from the athletic department...

Tomorrow is a prelude of things to come. MSU is hurting, their All B1G RB is banged up, their top 2 WR's are out and they have the worst pass D in the country.
This should be an easy win on the road. I'm predicting PSU 33 MSU 14
@psujoe Don't be sorry, we all have our own ideas of success. Me, I was reasonably happy with 40 some years of mostly winning season, good graduation rate, a "clean" program and a couple of Natties. If Franklin can deliver that, I'm good.
As for Franklin staying or leaving and the antics involved in all this; it's kinda like having a high drama girlfriend. If you want to stay, stay. If you want to go, go. Just cut all the crap in the middle.

From what I am reading on BSD, On3, Penn Live, SBN Nation and of course The Washington Post, they are saying much the same thing you are posting including a W over MSU. The writers mostly feel good about signing Franklin for the sake of stability and continuity but don't think he will be around for 10 years, 5 years is most likely. I agree with you and FD in that buyout terms are too easy for Franklin to exit leaving PSU on the hook.
