Just saw where Ohio State and Michigan have cancelled their spring games. Wonder if Penn State will follow suit. If this doesn't get under control soon, we may be watching re-runs on Saturdays this fall! Big 10 Bball closed to fans starting tomorrow night, March Madness did the same and NBA suspends the season. I would imagine Baseball will be next to make an announcement.
We all need to pay attention here. I have washed my hands more the past week than I have done all my life! I may be lving off the grid in Coopers Gap if we don't get some positive news soon.
Wasn't reading too much into this at first, but my tune has changed in the past 48 hours. I have a lot of faith in modern medicine, but the sooner the better on this one!
BE SMART AND BE SAFE!

Yeah, this is getting scary. Really can't make heads or tales out of this mess. Mixed stories, and then you have all kind of conspiracy theories out there. I've heard it all. Every story from man made to hurt the economy to worse. Keep your eyes on the stock market. It's going to take a very hard hit. I know it sucks, but I'm not worried about sports right now. I'm just hoping this passes.
NASCAR is running Atlanta and home stead but with no fans in the stands which I think is a great idea because unlike basketball and hockey the fans aren’t all over the drivers and the driver are in the car by themselves. Stay safe everybody and remember we’re all good friends here so please check in if you have time.
With recruiting, spring practice, the Blue-White game, etc, etc being cancelled, I guess the only thing we have left is the transfer portal, lol!
Seriously, hope everyone stays safe & healthy.
Hear you Southern. I'll probably do just that!
I've chosen not to participate in the Corona Virus panic. I got the flu shot as usual. I plan on continuing eating healthy, working out and getting plenty of rest. Maybe buy some stocks and mutual funds on the dip and convert some IRA money to Roth IRA money. Sitting back and do some good home cooking.
I feel bad for the senior athletes who cannot compete in their last year. Especially since Corona Virus doesn't seem to effect young people. It really doesn't make much sense to me. I feel they should decide if they want to compete or not. Same with the fans. If they want to go watch let them go. Why are we letting the system decide what we can and cannot do? Seems like there are a lot of sheep out there. I'm not one of them. I prefer to be a Lion. (or ex Lion)
i agree I’m going on with my life I ain’t going to let anything slow me down brother. I’m pissed because nascar cancelled the race because it’s safe for them to race. Basketball and hockey I agree with because the fans are close and all around the players. Panic and a crash of the stock market would can be worse because it could cause riots and other things. I may get the virus and die from it and if I do it is what it is I’ll see y’all in heaven lol
Since we are off topic, Iowa finally had a legit shot at taking down Penn State wrestling at Nationals this year. Sorry Tommy Boy, not going to happen. The thought of this brings a smile to my face. Penn State, still defending Champions!!!!!!!!!

The virus doesn't affect young people as much as old people but young people can get it and be carriers. Then when then games are over and they go back home or to their schools ... I am bummed about all the cancellations and feel bad for those seniors that are losing the end of their seasons/careers, but it does make sense to not gather in large numbers no matter what the age of those in the gathering.
I do have an idea for the NCAA tourney. Each team goes to their own home court with a referee and TV coverage at each gym. Each team picks 5 starters and they them play "horse" against the opposing team. You can substitute at any time. If your team wins the game you move onto the next level.
The best thing we ALL can do is follow the guidelines the CDC is suggesting. The sooner we flatten the curve, the sooner we can all get back to living normal lives again. This something each of us can do to contribute to a faster recovery!

I’m sorry, but I couldn’t help but to respond to your post. This isn’t the flu. A flu shot is useless against Coronavirus. I’m sorry, but if that is what you are insinuating, it is grossly ignorant. There is no vaccine or treatment currently for the Coronavirus. The thing that people don’t seem to understand is this. The regulations for staying away from large crowds are for the greater good of our entire country (not you individually) and are being put in place so the spread of the virus slows down over the next two weeks and doesn’t spread at the current daily rate it is spreading now. If it continues to spread at it’s current rate, the number of patients needing medical care in the U.S. will exceed the amount of available healthcare in the U.S. That’s where Italy finds themselves right now. Currently, in Italy, they are having to choose which patients to treat because of the overwhelming number of patients. Don’t kid yourself, that is a very real possibility here in the U.S. For instance, if all of the ICU beds at your local hospitals are full with Coronavirus patients and you come in with a severe heart attack, where are they going to put you? If you need emergency surgery, but the ORs are being used as patient care rooms for Coronavirus patients due to the entire hospital being overwhelmed, where are you going to get your surgery? And, yes, young people do get this virus. In addition, even if the person doesn’t seem like they are sick, they can be a carrier and pass it in to others. I would urge you to do a little reading on this. It is very important.
As a healthcare worker, I sincerely hope you rethink your perspective on this. If your post was made sarcastically or tongue in cheek, then I apologize for the response, but it appears it wasn’t. Changing our daily routine and staying out of public, except for a dire emergency for the next few weeks is a small sacrifice to make to decrease the spread of something we have never seen before. Further, think of healthcare workers. They put their own safety aside and treat everyone presented to them on a daily basis. Then they leave their place of employment (most likely with germs attached to them) and go home to their families, many with small children. The following day they do the same thing all over again. Please, the “panic” you described could be avoided with some simple steps. In fact, these steps should have been started several weeks ago. I’ll leave you with a few articles. You’ll probably have enough down time to read them. Be well.

This is a long, but very informative article about the spread of Coronavirus. It is worth the read. The cliff notes are: it spreads like rabbits reproducing. Please, be intelligent about this. It isn’t panic, it’s being smart about it.

Thank you for your logical post. Some of the other posts on here were making me hold my head in disbelief.

If anyone wants even further info, go directly to the CDC website. It is very informative.
I may have misspoke a little 99 because I do believe listening to the professionals and they’ve said stay away from large crowds and I’ve done that. I’m also a numbers guy and I believe in what the stats say and I heard on the news just last night saying 99% would recover from this virus so hearing that makes me feel everything is going to be okay and I see no reason to panic or worry. I don’t believe in sitting around and being stressed out anyway I put that in the LORD JESUS hands ain’t no reason for me to worry. GOD put people on this earth to be professional doctors and scientists so IMO we should listen to ‘em unless it gets in the way of what the scriptures say. Just my opinion though lol

Good morning SPF. Yes, numbers don’t lie. We have to consider all of the numbers also, not just a select few. Here are a few others to consider that are stated in articles I read and may have posted here. Coronavirus is spreading in the U.S. at about a 30%-40% increase daily. Also, while the mortality rate from Coronavirus sounds low at about 1%-2%, consider that the mortality rate for Influenza is only about .1%. This means that the Coronavirus is as much as 20% more deadly than Influenza, which claims thousands of U.S. lives per year. We can drastically slow the spread and decrease these numbers by taking precautions and sacrificing a little social outing time for the next few weeks. That’s it. It’s not much to ask. Stay healthy! Have a good weekend.
Yes, it is serious. Yes, we need to be informed. Yes we need to follow guidelines issued by the medical professionals. Yes we need to take appropriate precautions. Yes we need to guard against panic. Finally, yes we need to place our trust in God that with his help, this to shall pass. Finally, maybe Cave needs to create a Coronavirus message category so those of us that want to discuss this topic can and those of us that want to discuss things more apropop to Penn State football can without having to hear more about the pandemic. Please don't accuse me of trying to ignore this serious issue or downplaying it's importance. I just think it's also important to have places to turn to for a breather from all the gloom and doom. You can call it escapism, but we need a break to keep our sanity!
Bob, I agree. My wife is refusing to watch the news right now because it’s everywhere. We watched old George Carlin stand up routines the other night to lighten the mood. Too bad George isn’t with us to make light of the situation.
My apologies for hijacking the thread. I just wanted to clear the air for something that I read that was misinformation. I was hoping to help provide current up to date info.
No need to apologize, 99. It does affect everything, including Penn State football! I just thought if we tried not to discuss it in depth here, it would provide us some respite. I like Southern's idea of doing it on the Water Cooler board. That would save Cave the trouble of adding another one. I enjoyed George Carlin's humor too. Especially his bit on language contradictions such as "civil war", "jumbo shrimp", "near miss", etc., lol!

Tell that to the people in Italy, where the mortality rate is over 7%
24,747 cases, 1809 dead.
Simple fact is WE DON'T KNOW, because country by country is very different right now.
Look, we are ALL experts here! Any one of can take over the Penn State HC postion and make the playoffs our first year! With that said, it is up to all of us to educate each other about the virus just in case one of us experts missed something! One of us MAY need to take over in the fall, so we have to stay healthy and avoid any contact with the general public for the next 6 months or so!!
I think we should ALL SELF QUARANTEEN at Beaver Stadium! If we start now, we can have 100K healthy people by kickoff!
Italy has an aging population so their numbers will be worse plus I’m only going on what our experts say what to do here. Whatever our doctors say do I will do even if it changes daily. I listen to the experts in these situations.
