They aren't spending more money then us, they are just doing it smartly and not just yhrowing large sums of cash at edge rushers. Why can these other schools manage to do it? Why can LSU, Tennessee, Georgia, Ohio State and all these other schools manage to pony up the money but PSU can't? I have a couple of charities that I have the honor of being involved with fundraising for...All I can say to your statement is if it was easy everybody would be doing it...I never said it would be easy or is easy...What I am saying is it needs to be done and whoever has that responsibility needs to step it up and do some persuading and get it done...It appears that Tennessee, LSU and Ohio State ain't having any problems coming up with the money...They have managed to find some people who want to spend...PSU needs to go drum up some folks who are willing to spend...The bottom line is there are a lot of teams finding the money to spend...The University is spending upwards of a billion dollars to renovate the stadium and facilities...They might as well burn that money if they ain't going to spend the money to retain their best players and bring in the better players from the portal to put out a championship product...To me letting your leading tackler and best linebacker leave along with your best defensive lineman ain't the way to do it...You can say maybe they want to leave and that may be so...The trick is to sit them down and convince them to stay...Losing those 2 players ain't good and I don't see anybody coming in that can shine their shoes from a talent standpoint...Just my opinion...
You also missed my point entirely about money. Some guys want to leave, and money won't make them stay. LSU and OSU have multiple Nattys recently and kids know that. Tennessee? Who knows, maybe the kid just really likes his DC and wanted to follow him.
You are trying to bring your logic to a situation that has 18-22 year old kids making decisions. They are young, many are impulsive. They can get attached to cosches too. It happens
No way to salary cap advertising dollars, at least not without anti-trust exemptionsThis is why we need a salary cap. A salary cap will keep college football about the money but it will keep it more about loyalty and helmets.
@roaminglion can we get the anti tax thing you’re talking about? Is this what the government can do if they have to get involved? I believe the government should get involved and put a hammer down on some of this stuff regardless of how they gotta do it. My right eye is a little conservative and my left eye is half blind and socialist 😂
Yup, exactly that. The NFL and other sports leagues have exemptions which allows them to set limits and govern.@roaminglion can we get the anti tax thing you’re talking about? Anti-trust exemptions would give the NCAA teeth and allow for more effective governance instead of the wild west.
Cmon, the NCAA can't even enforce basic uniform standards { see Bermuda shorts) lol!
@rip Here! Here! We'd have never thought to go on the field w/o knee pads! Laps until you dropped!
@been-there-ii Drives me nuts
NCAA Doesn't care about:
- Education
- Safety
- Institutional Control (This was the Sandusky justification right?)
What do they care about?
- Status
- Salary
- Power
- Parties
I'd argue they don't care about education because they know they can't enforce those standards. UNC case shows that... UNC set up a fake class and then sued the NCAA, and won. Numerous other examples as well.@been-there-ii Drives me nuts

They have no power, yet people blame them for not enforcing rules.
@roaminglion That’s why I believe the ncaa wants the football ship to sink so they can step back in and take their power back.
Pros have franchises and the business is the NFL. I can imagine the major conferences getting together and deciding they don't need the NCAA. Maybe they need the government allowance but at some point the NCAA has a risk that the Universities decide they don't add value to D1 Football?

Good place to start Roam. Go visit your local representative. Have the forum members sign a petition.
well I guess it all depends on what you want your team to be...You can have a team full of average players and have depth...Or you can have 4 or 5 dominant players and fill in with...If you think you can win the race with chevies against a lamborghini or 2...It's like it was 20 years ago in baseball...Every winter the Yankees went out and spent hundreds of millions of dollars on the best available players and the mets would spend 20 million dollars on the middle of the road guys...The top guys would be out there and it was always a forgone conclusion that the Mets weren't even in the conversation and the Yankees more often than not landed them...Both New York teams in the biggest market yet one will spend and the other watches...Ohio State doesn't seem to have any trouble ponying up the cash to land this guy...Tennessee and LSU don't either...So I guess as Penn State fans we are walmart shoppers while OSU and the rest do their shopping at Armani and Tiffany's...You get what you pay for...
@roaminglion...They aren't spending more money then us, they are just doing it smartly and not just throwing large sums of cash at edge rushers.
Well they are doing something better than us and smarter than us because they seem to kick our ass every year...could it be like this year they are willing to throw a large sum of cash at an elite edge rusher that used to play for us? I also believe that money holds most of the sway in these decisions...Letting a kid like Coleman and your leading tackler Campbell go to me ain't smart management...I don't know how this all works and who pulls the strings but whoever the hell it is needs to have a sit down with these 2 players and make them an offer they can't refuse...There ain't any players out there of their caliber to replace them...That is the reality...Whoever Penn State brings in to replace those 2 guys is a downgrade...
@the-funeral-director Chaz Coleman ranks in the top 10 on 247 sports but Cambell ranks behind the LB’r we’re getting from Iowa St and I’m assuming these are professionals ranking these dudes. Also The dude on pennlive said it was in Penn St best interest money wise to spend the money at DT and let Cambell walk. Cambell probably ain’t being reasonable and Chaz wants to leave and that’s just the way it is maybe MC tried we don’t know.
The dude from Iowa St Calen Bacon ranks in the top 100 and Cambell is right outside the top 200. I like Cambell too but the disaster Jim Knowles was I’ll wait till this year to judge our LB’s because they didn’t have a problem in the Clemson game and Clemsonhad their starting QB playing.
Chaz wanted to leave beacuase there ain't nothing to do in State College becuase it's in the middle on nowhere.
Yet Indiana is winning with exactly what you are saying not to do.well I guess it all depends on what you want your team to be...You can have a team full of average players and have depth...Or you can have 4 or 5 dominant players and fill in with...If you think you can win the race with chevies against a lamborghini or 2...It's like it was 20 years ago in baseball...Every winter the Yankees went out and spent hundreds of millions of dollars on the best available players and the mets would spend 20 million dollars on the middle of the road guys...The top guys would be out there and it was always a forgone conclusion that the Mets weren't even in the conversation and the Yankees more often than not landed them...Both New York teams in the biggest market yet one will spend and the other watches...Ohio State doesn't seem to have any trouble ponying up the cash to land this guy...Tennessee and LSU don't either...So I guess as Penn State fans we are walmart shoppers while OSU and the rest do their shopping at Armani and Tiffany's...You get what you pay for...
If this coach does what Cignetti is doing at Indiana with JMU transfers I will happily and gleefully skip around like I switched teams (if you know what I mean) and apologize to everyone and proclaim my stupidity to the masses all the while giggling like an adolescent schoolgirl who just copped my first feel...From your lips to God's ears Roam...I pray to God I am wrong...
@the-funeral-director 😂 you’re going to love MC brother just give the man a chance. I’m tickled to death on everything I see.
@the-funeral-director Ok call me one twisted SOB, but I hope your prancing dream comes true! Good thing that won't happen until after the B&W game, it might scare Niccy off.
I pray to God almighty that you guys will be calling me Peter Pan at this time next year...I really hope I am wrong...
@the-funeral-director we’re just a like FD, I love being wrong if it’s good for Penn St 😂
