Hack's failed NFL career made me reflect on our highest ranked quarterback recruits since the services came out, and here’s the list of the 5 & 4 star QB's (in order of how highly they were ranked) to come to Penn State:
1. Anthony Morrelli
2. Christian Hackenberg
3. Zac Wasserman
4. Michael Robinson
5. Rob Bolden
6. Pat Devlin
7. Paul Jones
8. Kevin Newsome
9. Sean Clifford
10. Michael O’Connor
11. Ta’Quan Roberson
12. Jake Zembiec
That's it, that's all we have. Honestly, I had to look up some of these guys because I didn't know who they were. LOL. Only one kid on that list lived up to any semblance of hype: Michael Robinson. Even then, he didn't play QB until his senior year. The rest? Morelli had two bad seasons with a very good team around him, and Hack had a mediocre season followed by his de-evolution. After that, the most meaningful thin anyone on this list did? Devlin came into a game against Ohio State in 2008 and just handed the ball off a bunch of times before scoring on a QB keeper.
Just crazy to see how many highly sought after recruits failed, and how a 3* kid who was committed to Vanderbilt (McSorley) has rewritten our record book in almost every possible way.
Yeah, the best story might be the walk on McGloin.
