I couldn’t read all of it but it looks like there’s a college football union? This ain’t going to end good imo. We already have the NFL and it usually doesn’t end good with any kind of football trying to compete with the NFL.  Maybe I’m not connecting all the dots because I couldn’t read the whole article?

Yes sir! The game has changed and this can be very disruptive to a locker room as a sidebar distraction depending on who is involved. In PSU 's case, you have a front line participant who will try to balance both sides of his direct involvement. That's gonna to be hard with a group of already entitled athletes with a "I just want whats mine" attitude and a "I can help you get it" vs "come on man, lets just play ball". That is all driven first by human nature and now influenced and magnified by social media.

On the other hand, I do believe the NCAA really missed the boat on some fringe benefits e.g. medical care for athletes post eligibility or an edu benefit for the player or rollover to a player's child like the military provides; something along those lines if a player met some basic requirements.

We need to go back to the basics:  "Come play football for us and we'll give you a free education".  End of story, nothing less & nothing more.

If that's the case then i guess we are in for a real long season of misery and losses.

Absolutley...  Let them go create a minor league football system and they can all go play there.  Anyone who wants an education can come play in the NCAA.

They will find out real quick that they aren't as important to college fans as they think they are.

@psujoe  remoh, we have a right to change our minds 😂 when I was talking about paying, I was talking maybe $1000 a month along with a free education and whatever else comes with a scholarship  not professional NFL type money 💰

At the basketball and football level the NCAA represents the Student  Professional Athlete and the NCAA Business which is a monopoly.

Taking advantage of an education when your professional aspirations fail....is not even secondary.  It is looked down upon.

There's a big difference between allowing NIL money and creating a union for revenue sharing. I don't care if kids make money through advertising or YouTube... it's their image and in today's world YouTube is a job. That's fine...

What I don't want is money coming from the University coffers to pay them at the expense of actual students, or revenue sharing from TV deals that the Universities have because of THEIR BRAND. Again, big difference.

In short, if the players want money based on their own image... Fine. However, now they are asking for money based off of the University's image... they have no right to that.

The NCAA is not a monopoly. At all. There is the NAIA, and other non-affiliated school leagues. No one is forcing kids to go play NCAA basketball, the NBA has a minor league called the G-League and there are international leagues too. The NBA, if anyone, is the one telling kids they can't play even if they are good enough by not allowing them to enter the draft out of high school. And... spoiler alert, that was done BY THE PLAYERS not the owners, who didn't like HS players cutting into their money.

The ship has sailed and it ain't never coming back; too much money involved for all parties to make; players, agents and attorneys. Thing is I don't think the players will be any better off. Some will have the financial acumen to benefit but the vast majority will be back where they started from and probably broke by the time they "retire' from collegiate ball at the age of 20. In the end the big time D1 programs will continue to get richer and richer and fans will continue to pay and watch.

Just me but I pull for Penn State because of the lion head and the uniforms and of course the goat Joe Paterno. I pull for Penn State players in the NFL because they played for Penn State. The helmets, jerseys and shoes is why I started pulling for Penn State back in 1975 baby. To be honest though, I didn’t even know who the goat joe Paterno was in 1975 I just loved the uniforms and helmets. They also lost to Alabama that game I first watched in 1975 and I still liked ‘em 😂

Basically, what I'm saying is you put the most talented players in the NCAA in a minor league feeder system and not many will care... However, you put the less talented guys in a Penn State uniform and there will still be 100,000+ showing up for a white-out against OSU.

That's my point when the players say they are the reason people come to watch the game. No, you aren't the reason.

Another article. I guess Rocco went back to Minnesota. I didn’t know he did. I believe the dude did good at Minnesota? Him and James Franklin must have had some bad blood somewhere

Bingo Roam! I’ve been saying the same damn thing in a few bar debates the past few weeks. Take away the university brand and you’ll have crap interest from the general public. I will enthusiastically watch a bunch of 3 star “student athletes” wearing the blue and white over a boring pre-NFL league of self entitled 4 and 5 star kids who just want paid for playing a sport. Your white out example puts it perfectly. The university brand puts asses in the seats and eyes on the TV not the talent or popularity of a high school student.

Just to add that I said 3 star but I don’t care what talent level the real student athletes are.

I agree. The majority of the time I have no idea who the players are but I generally throw on all PSU games, and the following matchups just because of the schools: Bama/Aub; Bama/GA; Navy/Army/Airforce; USC/ND; OSU/Mich; NE/TX; TX/OK; OK/NE; ND/Navy; and every now then a late night Mountain West game.

IMO the military academy games are what college football is all about and I have no affiliation with any Service.

Tangent here, but it would have been nice if the NCAA was allowed to have their leagues bargain collectively for TV rights. However, I believe that would have gotten into antitrust law territory. Think about it, no league is above anyone else just like the NFL... all teams are treated fairly at the highest level.

Of course, this would mean a reduction in teams at the FBS level. But the Big Ten, ACC, SEC, Big 12, and PAC 12 would all share revenue with each other fairly. There would be requirements on how much you commit to athletics too, so you can't just sponge off of everyone else.

Place everyone in 10 or 12 team conferences and let them go at it. Each winner gets to a playoff, and maybe some wildcards too. You get many more regional games and rivalries too.

I know how to spice the bowl games up again. The winning teams get paid $2000 each kid and the losing teams gets nothing? 😂 only kids that travel with team get paid. There still would be some kids sit out but the ones playing would try like heck to get the win. It pays to be your best and win
