Not many Saturdays to go before kickoff!  Still think the whole season revolves around the new OC and what he brings to the table....like coaching up the QB for starters.  I want you ALL to remember this comment.  If the very first offensive play is a QB keeper, it is going to be a long, long season for all of us. With all of the talent and play makers they have returning, I want to see a well executed pass or run play that DOESN'T involve Clifford other than him passing or handing the ball off! I will support this kid til the cows come home! But if he tries to take control of the running game on his own, then nothing changed from last season.

I truly believe there is a boat load of hungry talent returning to be a force in the Big10 and Country. I hope JF cuts them loose from the opening kickoff and just lets them have at it!

GO STATE!

Which reminds me.  I'm not a fan of this hiring and firing coaches scheme.  It's no different than being a hypochondriac searching for that doctor that's going to prescribe you that magic pill for immediate resolution.  It does not work that way. Let's just say penn state ends with a losing season. Will Franklin fire another assistant? Let's hope this doesn't be another season of "Coachochondriac"

Yeah, it does work that way though. Ask LSU, their hire was widely considered the reason Burrow flourished.

You could always counter my statement with something to back up your position, but I guess that's another way to go 🤷‍♂️

We complain all game long about coaching and then we complain when he changes one for a better one.  But clearly we know more than ... James.

Or the theory is that he changes coaches to protect himself from the poor performance?

Was there some extenuating circumstances last year...I forget.

James is only good because of his assistants but his assistants are bad! I don't care if this makes no sense!!!!

@roaminglion

I truly believe JF is a good recruiter.  But then again, PSU by ITSELF is a good recruiter! Lots of history, success and a great place to get an education!  Moorehead was a great add - wish he was still here and I bet he does too! Jury is still out on Pry for me.  BUT, I think he is getting better and unfortunately PSU has lost some close games while he was going through his learning curve! Yurcich? I am praying he CAN turn Clifford into something special.  Yurcich has coached up some fairly good QB's in his career.  If Clifford is capable of being a good QB, if he has the tools and smarts, Yurcich should be able turn the Offense around this season.

James?  IDK, I just like him! I am nowhere ready to run him out of town.  I think the guy likes being at PSU, wants to get PSU back into the mix and let's face it, he has had some really good seasons.  Heck, even last season I think most of us were excited with the last 4 games.  I think that took a lot of guts and courage to go out there week after week, loss after after loss and convince these young players that they were much better than their record.  If he takes this team out to Wisconsin and comes home with a win....that's going to say a lot about his progress as the HC at Penn State.

Take a look at Bama's record between 1997 and 2007.

(4) losing seasons

(3) 10 win seasons

(1) 500 season

(2) So,so seasons

Penn State Between 2000 and 2010....under JVP

(4) losing seasons

(3) 11 win seasons

(1) So, So season

(3) 9 win seasons

Penn State under JF

(3) 11 win seasons

(2) So,so seasons

(1) losing season.....during the pandemic

No doubt Saban turned that program around much faster than James, BUT he didn't take over a crippled program either.  I am hoping last season was the season that pushed JF to the next level in his coaching career.  Lot of positive stuff coming out of Happy Valley and maybe, just maybe, the new OC will help get them back up to the Elite level.  He has a lot of talent to work with and this is NOT a rebuilding year.  I think he will get it done!  Undefeated? Probably not.  10 wins? I am taking THAT bet!

GO STATE!
