In this new model, I honestly like not having a protected rivalry. Michigan State always felt forced, with the organic rivalry becoming Ohio State. However, we were never going to be Ohio State's true rival, that's going to be Michigan.
It's kinda weird how the Big Ten keeps slighting us though... how many years in a row of starting the schedule on the road? And now the only team in the B1G without a permanent rival? LMAO.

Iowa already has 3 games, 2 of which are much bigger rivalries than PSU (Wisky/Minnesota). Personally, I'd ask the Big Ten if we could do what the SEC does, and allow us to play Pittsburgh at the end of every season like Georgia/GT and Clemson/South Carolina do. We already know the ACC would allow it, and I do miss the rivalry.
I'm tired of PSU saying we'd lose money on the deal, so does Georgia with GT and they still do it for the fans.

Based on who Penn State has played the most over all the years (going all the way back to the 1890s), our most frequent Big Ten opponent has been Maryland. So why won't the Big Ten make the Penn State / Maryland contest our protected "rivalry"??
Maybe you should ask Franklin why he didn't request to name a particular rivalry game, be it with Maryland or somebody else. I read that to continue rivalry games, the Big Ten asked programs to request them. Penn State (Franklin and/or our AD) chose not to request a designated rivalry game.

The reason Penn State claims to not wanting to play the Pitt game is they lose money because they wouldn't get another home game every other year. So we say we want 2 home games to every 1 of theirs. Pitt's stadium holds 60,000+ and it's sold out when PSU plays Pitt.
Georgia loses a home game too by scheduling home and homes with GT every year. GT's stadium holds over 12,000 less than Pitt's, yet Georgia is just fine continuing to play them.
Just play the damn game.

Maryland vs. Rutgers: 11-7
They'd rather have a competitive rivalry (Rutgers vs. Maryland) than try to sell a lopsided mess. The only 2 times Maryland has beat us in the past 60 years were when we were heavily sanctioned and the throw away COVID year.

I believe it was 1989 when Pitt tried to tie us and kicked a FG. Can’t remember exactly what happened but we won the game. That was a scumbag move by the Pitt coach.
Can’t say I hate them ! I just find them to be insignificant and have no desire to do their miserable fans any favors. Well, our motto for a number of years has been "Unrivaled" so I guess we just made that factual.
I’m sorry guys I just believe we should play Pitt every year for out rivalry game or ND but gotta play one. We have no real rivalry game and we need one. Ohio St and Michigan ain’t a rivalry game that’s just 2 big dawg teams we want to beat. Just my opinion though. I’ll even take WV every year. When we get done with the mega conferences all teams need to pick one out of conference team and the 2 teams play every year going forward. I’d love to get alabama, Pitt, ND or WV. That would be my first 4 options.
