The only loss will be Michigan. 11-1 pending how the new QB gels.
I’m going with 11-2 as of today but if the QB is as good as we believe he will be we’ll make the playoffs.

So Michigan wins the East again?
The beatings have to stop....I am going ALL IN at 12-0!!!!!!! Love our RB's and I think they will make a world of difference for Allar. Ohio State on the road will be the big one for me, but Michigan ain't leaving Happy Valley with a win!
GO STATE!!!
@mtnittanylion it’s a great day to be a Penn State fan brother we are stacked with talent.
Agreed. We have the talent. The only question is will the boys live up to their potential. I sure hope so. It would be great to make the playoffs and maybe win the Natie in the last year of the current format!
I haven't taken the time to see who has who returning this year, but Penn State's schedule is not the typical powder puff start....IMO. WVU played well against all of the ranked teams they faced last year.....for the most part. Illinois had a pretty good 2022 and had Michigan on the ropes in the 4th quarter and let it slip away. Iowa is always a good game for us and fortunately this one is at home this year. I like having Delaware the second game of the year. This should be a good time to make any adjustments after seeing how things go against WVU before facing Illinois on the road and Iowa at home.
Allar ( and PSU ) are going to face 3 decent teams in the first 4 weeks of the season. I am hoping this will get them moving along early in the season and they come out of this 4 game stretch 4-0. The next two games ( Umass & NW ) are not too concerning, so this should be two nice tune up games before Ohio State. Outside of ND - which who knows what they have this year - Ohio State has very weak first 6 game schedule. This could really play out for Penn State as Ohio State will really not know how good (or not so good they are) when Penn State rolls into town. If they are 6-0 when the Lions come to the Shoe, 5 of those wins will be over very weak teams vs Penn State who will have played at least 2 fairly good Big10 teams and one decent OOC team.
Then again, what do I know. I am just hoping by the time we face Ohio State, we are 6-0 and better adjusted than Ohio State who will only have one game under their belt that is meaningful.
GO STATE!!!

Yes, that's what I believe.
Again, 11-1 providing the QB lands on both feet from the start of the season. OSU? Ehhhh, there's something about them that just doesn't seem to click.

At least we get Michigan at home this year, which I prefer to OSU. I agree with you, I think OSU takes a step back this year. Hopefully the Beav gives us enough advantage to get UM.
The football program and mostly the man at the top has a lot to prove before I ever predict an 11-1 season for the Nits and I have zero confidence in us winning a game vs a team that has equal or greater talent than we do. For once in his career at PSU Franklin has to prove he is an asset and not a liability and until they consistently beat the crap out of teams they should never lose to (Iowa,MD,IU,MSU) and get regular wins vs the top tier teams in the conference (Meatchicken,OSU) I’ll stick with my annual predictions of 9-3 or 8-4.
Face it we’ve been just barely better than Iowa whose recruiting classes are usually ranked in the 40’s while ours are close to being top ten, we’ve even been out recruiting Meatchicken for years but they continue to kick the crap out of us on an annual basis.
Great coaches do more with less and Franklin does less with more.
I believe we have the pieces. The coaches just need to put them together in the right way to solve the puzzle. The key is to achieve the right balance, especially on offense. The last thing we need is to put too much on Allar's shoulders. We don't need him flinging the ball all over the field because we have two excellent running backs that can get the job done.
I don't disagree with you on JF. He has let quite a few games slip through his fingers when other coaches probably could have chalked up a W. But the coaches under him need to step up too! I know in the past I commented on how predictable the play calling was and it still hasn't gotten THAT much better....and I don't know the first thing about coaching football or play calling.
With that said, Penn State has enough talent to compete in the Big10 this year and I just don't see Michigan or Ohio State being an Elite program this year unless JF makes them look like one. I don't know on a National Level how we fair out, but in the Big10 Penn State has enough power to beat Michigan and Ohio State. I am not saying we are hands down better, I just don't think Mich and Ohio State are as solid as they have been in the past. Personally, I think all three of these teams are pretty even and it will come down to how well disciplined JF has these guys.
Allar is the key and the play calling is right there with him. If this kid can get through the first couple of games w/o too many mistakes, I think we are going to have a good season. Got to get him some confidence right away and the rest will fall into place. I think we win some ugly games at the beginning and then it get betters as the season goes on.
GO STATE!
I’ve got frustrated with James Franklin at times but that’s because I’m just a regular fan out here that wants to win every games but if we look at his record he’s a top 5 definitely top 10 coach in the country. He’s been here 9 years and has won the cotton, fiesta and Rose Bowl and he lost a Rose Bowl. He’s a dam good coach he just needs to win his fair share against Ohio St and Michigan. Not winning our fair share in those games are keeping him from being a top 3 coach in the country imo. But the truth is , it’s hard to beat ohio St and Michigan and every other team out there would struggle too if they played in the big 10 conference. I love the man even if I do want to choke him every now and then lol
Agreed on all points, Southern. Franklin is a good coach, or should I say CEO. We could do a heck of a lot worse than him. He just needs to keep his ego in check and let his assistants do the actual coaching, especially his 2 capable coordinators.

You really let your fandom get in the way of common sense thinking at times as there is now way in hell JF is anywhere close to being a top 5 coach in the country !! I'd be hard pressed to even put him in my top 5 of the B1G and there is probably 5 better coaches than him in the SEC alone. Nationally I'd have him in the 15-20 range.
My top 5 in the B1G
1. Hairbawl
2.Ferentz
3. Day
4. Fitz
5. ?? JF?
@mtnittanylion Agree with pretty much everything you said!! We have the players and coordinators to be conference champs.
I think if you look at any conference there is only one, maybe two coaches who consistently light it up within their conference and then extrapolate that to the the national level and that number gets smaller. JF isn't there; Day has been there but he hasn't been at it that long; Dabo has had a good run; Myers whether you like him or not can flat out coach and win collegiately; Saban is the modern day Rockne; back to JF, he reminds me of a lot of good coaches, just not great. Just a random musing of sorts.
Day has the best players in the big 10. Nick Saban was at Michigan State for 5 years ask him how hard it is to beat Penn State, Ohio St and Michigan Ian’s win the big 10. He goes to the SEC where he has the best players and he dominates. It’s hard to beat Ohio St and Michigan and Nick Sabans record at Michigan State proves it. Slick Nick did great at Michigan State just not good enough to win the big 10. He had 5 years to get it done and didn’t do it. Look what he did at LSU and Alabama in his first 5 years. At Michigan State he’s not even close to James Franklin.
Also, Saban took over average teams at Alabama and LSU and was winning NC’s in 3 or 4 years and he couldn’t win the big 10 in 5 years. Harbaugh would be the only coach ahead of James Franklin in the big 10 imo

It should be stated that Saban took over a Michigan State team that was 0-11 due to sanctions for "lack of institutional control". He knew going in that it was a possibility, and a year or so after taking over some penalties were handed down. 4 year probation, stripped of 1994 victories (0-11), and loss of 10 scholarships. That's what Saban was working with his entire tenure at Michigan State.
People seem to forget that.
@roaminglion absolutely Roam. Michigan State was a disaster when he took them over.Alabama and LSU are great college jobs but both teams were average at best when he took them jobs. That’s 3 teams he built. I wasn’t taking a shot a Saban I was pointing out its hard to beat Ohio St and Michigan when you play in the big 10.
Definitions matter. I would argue that Joe was a great coach even if he hadn't won a NC. At this point I'd say that JF checks most of my boxes and as for the ones that matter to the masses he is 1-2 wins away in a couple of years. I just don't feel like he has been able to get a team to play over their heads like Joe did IMO.
But times may be tougher now. The game is more mature and more $ driven.
