Roam, what’s wrong with packing the Supreme Court? I don’t have a problem with it especially if it makes it harder for them to get something done JMO but the less they can get done, the better. Another thing, if the democrats thought it would help their cause wouldn’t they have already packed the court? IMO if packing the court would help any party they would’ve already done it.
because in the past not everything was about helping the party or "winning". It was about doing what they thought was best for the country.
Say what you will, but the USA wouldn't have survived if every past politician was only worried about themselves. It's changed.

FDR threatened to do it bad during the Great Depression, but never did. Just like everything, much of the things done recently were like unwritten rules that no one would mess with. However, the past 30 years have seen such an erosion in civility between parties... they don't care anymore.
IMO, I like Pete Buttegieg's plan for the Supreme Court. Twenty something justices, but 10 of them are picked by the Justices themselves, not Congress. This way you have your party picks, but the others get in based on mutual respect from their peers.
In the past there were unwritten rules people abided by, but the animosity between parties now has obliterated that... and lawyers IMO. Most Lawyers are good people, but the ones who get into Politics use the law as a weapon, when it should be a shield. Rather than the law protecting others, they use it to attack.
get this roam, I read and understand what you said about packing the court this morning and I was on my way back to the plant and Erick Erickson a guy on the radio here in Atlanta was explaining it to somebody that called in his show and I actually knew what the heck he was talking about before he said it lol. From what this dude says it was a justice back during FDR that come up with picking a justice to add to the court so that might be where Pete Buttigieg is gettin his idea from. Erick had to explain this on his show so I guess I’m not the only one that didn’t know lol...I told ya, I don’t study this stuff I listen to a few smart people that know politics from both sides and I try and connect the dots. I’ll admit I probably listen to mostly conservatives but I do listen to some liberals that way I can connect the dots or try lol...thanks for explaining that this morning
One interesting thing to add would be at first they had each Justice represent 1 circuit court. When they added a circuit, they added a Justice. It got to 9 before the Civil War, then during the war there was a 10th circuit added and it went up to 10 Justices. After the war it went down to 7 briefly, then back up to 9 and has stayed there ever since.
This is notable because there are currently 13 circuit courts in the USA. Numbers 1-11 handle the various regions, then there is a DC circuit and a Federal Circuit. So there would be precedent to raise the number up to 13, because you could argue that in the past it represented the number of courts and 13 would get back to that practice.
