Hey Southern, Just saw the other day that the Jack Ryan final season debuts June 30. Should be a good one. The last season was fantastic, but also probably the most complex to follow. We will see about this one. I think it has him uncovering internal issues.

I appreciate the heads buddy up I love that show. The movie was good but the tv show is better imo. I know Roam has watched the Vikings just wondering if you have checked that out it’s a great show?

@southern-psu-fan I have not. I’ll check it out when I get a chance. My youngest plays HS lacrosse, which just ended, and now he is playing on a summer club team, so that and my oldest graduating HS and starting at PSU in August has left me with very little free time. The last series I watched was the second season of The White Lotus. However, I’ll make time for Jack Ryan.

Which movie? The newest one Without Remorse? I didn't care for it, they changed too much from the novel IMO. My favorite character in the Clancy books has always been John Clark. He's like Jack, only willing to get a little dirty to get the job done. In fact, in the novels Ryan uses Clark to do his dirty work LOL...

My fav of all the movies is still The Hunt for Red October. Phenomenal flick.

Season 1: Outstanding

Season 2: Good

Season 3: Disappointing (Still enjoyed but because the first two were top notch, my expectations were very high.)

The first two episodes of the new season are now available on Prime. I just finished both. They did not disappoint.

@southern-psu-fan I just watched episodes 3 and 4 of the new season last night. It is very entertaining. Have you read any of the Jack Ryan series Tom Clancy books? I have not. I may when this series is over though. I know the series is based on the books, but are they a direct retelling of the books or are they different?

@lionbacker99  I have not read the books. I’ve only watched the movie that come out a few years ago and the tv show that’s on now. This tv show is better than the movie I watched but I still liked the movie okay. I’ve never heard of Jack Ryan until I watched the movie I thought the dude was going to be a dude like Jason Bourne I loved all them Bourne movies. I’m just being honest here I’ve never read a book except the Bible. I didn’t start reading it until 1999. They were giving away free bibles on tv so I got one. I like to read the Bible, the news and sports but to sit down and read a book just ain’t in me lol.

The series is "based" on the books, but not really a faithful telling of any specific ones. For those, you should watch the first 4 movies: The Hunt for Red October, Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger, and The Sum of All Fears. Those are pretty good book adaptations. Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit was just a spy film with the name Jack Ryan in it, not really a Clancy character.

I will say the show does a very good job of modernizing the Jack Ryan character, and I feel like the tone of the series is faithful to the Clancy novels as well.

All that said, the Clancy novels are very detail oriented and technical. So if you read them with the expectation of action novels, you'll be disappointed. However, they are very good reads.

FYI fun fact: The FBI investigated Tom Clancy in the 1980's after The Hunt for Red October was published. It had a vast amount of detail on Navy operations to the point that they wondered where he was getting the information. His info came from public files at the Library of Congress and other places, however some of the more "classified" details were him taking public info and making logical leaps and inventing certain things for the stories... turns out he was pretty good at guess what technology would come next.

I watch them every so often... Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, and Ben Affleck were playing Jack Ryan in the movies.

Just finished up Jack Ryan and it was good. Roam, I watched patriot games clear and present danger again and they were very good. I don’t know if I knew who Jack Ryan was back then I just liked the action in the movies plus Harrison Ford is one of my favorite actors I love all his movies.
