I think this was one of the best years at nationals. Much talent.

I got to meet Lakerie. Such a nice man. It was a pleasure talking to him

On my way home now. Time to rest.

Papa Roam baby lol. Congratulations to you and the mrs Roam I know y’all are so excited and I’m so glad to hear the baby girl is healthy. Roam, if possible just watch the match and see if you don’t think they give the other kid points late that shouldn’t have been given. I thought the Ohio st kid got robbed.

Congratulations Roam.

Southern, the Ref stopped the match close to the end of the 3rd period. OSU would have won but for the interference.  Why that happened is just mind boggling.  Kid from Cornell escaped at the buzzer. Tied. Then ot. We were just talking about this on the way home.

Biggest controversial call of all the matches was Nolf vs Hidlay.

Doesn't matter the period, points are points. Nolf was man enough afterwards to say it was a takedown. I think Nolf would have wrested more aggressive though and would have still have won.

Correct...points are points but timing does matter. When Bo got thrown in the finals by Martin in 2016, after he recovered, there wasn’t enough time for him to come back. If the official awarded Nolf’s opponent 2 at the end of the first period, he definitely would have turned on the tubo thrusters and would have scored more points. He had 4 minutes to work with. Not sure I agree with the call but nevertheless, McKenna had no opportunity to come back in regulation. Points are points but like many things in life, timing matters. And, some say, timing is everything.

I’ve had a few days to recover from my trip to nationals so here are a few thoughts:

1. Congratulations on your baby girl Roam. Is this your first child. There is nothing better.

2. I met Steaky and she is a lovely young lady who knows as much about wrestling as anybody. I know who her brothers are and they are studs. I didn’t meet the boys but did meet her sister and parents...super people.

3. Great talent in the tournament. Though thrilled to see PSU win another NC I felt bad for Hall and Joseph. Only Bo scored more tournament points than Valencia, he was on a mission. Mehki Lewis is unbelievably good and only a freshman. He was well coached in that match with Joseph, stopped all of his upper body attacks. I had said earlier I thought Joseph would have to start going low to win, too predictable. I don’t think McKenna got screwed, the refs have the best look and a the review on top so I think they got it right.

4. Bad weekend for Ohio State even they were second. MM loses in the semis and no champs.   Ryan doesn’t improve his wrestlers even they are elite talent. Martin , Tomasello, win NC’s as freshman but not after that. Good weekend for Rutgers with 2 NC’s, that’s good recruiting material for them especially keeping Jersey kids in state.

5. Pittsburgh a great town but not much around the PPG Center to kill time between sessions. We had nose bleed seats so trying to catch action in the prelims was hard.

6. Looks like Gavin Teasdale will transfer to Iowa, he’s there now but not yet enrolled. Kent State Conor to enroll at penn State next year.
