Why is Brooks ranked 3rd? He’s the 2 time defending National champion

It’s been good and tough tonight to get wins but at this level it ain’t easy regardless what happened last year. Team got the NC so I’m proud of all of ‘em and I’m sure they’re proud as well. That dude RBY wrestled is one tough dude man.

Seeding criteria is determined by coaches and computer guys. It is so much better today than it was years ago. Coaches understand the process and are happy with it. Only uninformed emotional fans criticize the process.

Rather than imply you're an uninformed fan criticizing the process, I'll actually try to answer your question.

This is from FloWrestling (They had an article wondering why Brooks wasn't #1, so you certainly weren't the only one)

First, the NCAA uses a matrix formula for every qualifier. Here is what the initial criteria looks like:

  1. Head-to-head competition — 25 percent
  2. Quality wins — 20 percent
  3. Coaches Ranking — 15 percent
  4. Results against common opponents — 10 percent
  5. RPI (Ratings Percentage Index) — 10 percent
  6. Qualifying event placement — 10 percent
  7. Win % — 10 percent

This sets the baseline for a committee that can then choose to change a seed if they so please. Aaron Brooks wrestled in the NWCA All Star Classic, but it did not count on official records or for seeding, so he didn’t get credit for beating Parker Keckeisen this season. That makes his best win on the year six-seed Kaleb Romero. To the committee, it wasn't enough to alter seeding.

Again, this is straight from FloWrestling. I was curious about your question Southern, not knowing how it works myself... so I looked it up.

I missed the Haines and O’Connor match and I just watched it. That O’Conner is a stud he was just to strong for Haines but Haines give him a good run he just wasn’t strong enough to get loose. I’ve always been impressed with the kid from NCAR and I usually pull for him but not this match. Haines will have his day probably next year that dude is tough. That O’Conner is a rugged son of a gun lol

Obviously you don’t understand the sport especially what the purpose of seeding is. You didn’t hear Cael criticize where the PSU kids were seeded.

When a #16 seed in the basketball tournament knocks off a #1 seed, does that mean #16 should have been seeded #1?

@sky  I understand the sports I just don’t know all the rules on how seeding is done. I guess a 2 time national champion upset 2 guys and won his 3rd national championship lol

Yeah, you should just stop talking

The two guys that Cael felt were inappropriately seeded, both lost to guys seeded below them.  Obviously the seeding committee got it right in 2022. In 2023 every PSU guy was seeded in a position to win. Essentially seeding is not supposed to with 100% accuracy predict the order of finish. The purpose is to keep the best guys in opposite brackets. Cael should have kept his mouth shut. BTW, the Coaches Association each year evaluates the seeding and the results have proven that the changes made over the years has improved the process.

So you've gone from calling Southern an emotion fan that should keep his mouth shut, to saying Cael would never question the seedings, to now saying one of the greatest coaches and wrestlers the sport has ever seen should have "kept his mouth shut" after he did question the seedings.

I mean, wow.

Did seeding keep Penn State from winning the big 10 championship 2 years ago? We couldn’t score points because we had so many guys that were seeded first in the first rounds if I remember correctly, right? Good enough to win the NC but not good enough to win the Big 10? Something is definitely wrong with the process just looking at that? I’ll admit I don’t know all the rules but something ain’t right. Maybe the PAKid, Lake or 99 can chime in on this?

Well, except Cael who criticized it... but sure, only emotional fans. Carry on.
