I'm not comparing him to Fry per se, I am saying Fry showed that Iowa doesn't exactly get as many worse players as you think.Hayden Fry had practically the same winning percentage, and ended the year ranked in 10 seasons out of 20. Ferentz has ended the year ranked 10 times out of 27.The one coach I’ll never understand why we never made a play for is Ferentz. I’m not saying to do it now but if there was ever a better coach doing more with less in the B1G I’d like to know who it was. I would have loved to see what he could have done with the higher level of recruits he would have brought to Happy Valley.
Not sure the "done more with less" narrative holds up if his predecessor had just as much, if not more, success.
Why has he beaten PSU the amount of times he has when he has rarely ever been able to recruit at the same level as PSU does? Because he does more with less that’s why. There’s no doubt in my mind that if he were at PSU he would be able to recruit at a higher level.
I’m not comparing him to Hayden Frye , I’m comparing him to other coaches of his era.
I believe he is a cery good coach, however some coaches are just built for success where they are at and wouldn't necessarily do well elsewhere. I think Ferentz is a pefect fit at Iowa... and not sure he'd be any better somewhere else.
@roaminglion Coach Ferentz always seems to have a good OL, QB’s that don’t beat’em and a sound defense. They play good sound football.
I know it’s just their opinion but this might come down the pipe but you have to listen to the whole thing. It’s a out 30 minutes but it’s some good stuff.

I thought this analysis was interesting...more than most.
I actually believe they got the next HC all but locked up already and they have done a great job of keeping it under wraps... You hear different things every other day which tells me these guys are all throwing shit at the wall and seeing what sticks because they have no idea who they are even negotiating with...I honestly think it comes down to 3 guys...Cignetti, Brohm and Brady with Hartline and Elko as the outliers...
@the-funeral-director I’ll take any of them coached except The Ohio St dude Jim Knowles shows what works at Ohio St might not work at Penn St…why take a chance! I still believe Manny is on the table.
Not hearing much at all about interviews other than with Key so they’re doing a good job keeping things quiet. Something is gonna break soon, I was told the goal is to have the guy signed by the end of Nov. At this point I would bet we’re in serious negotiations with Brohm or Elko.
