Hey 99, i was wondering how many scholarships you can give out per school in wrestling? Thanks buddy
@southern-psu-fan 9.9. Which means the PSU staff has to get creative to get all these elite kids on board. For instance, Matt Brown was ROTC. Max Dean, supposedly, transferred in without any scholarship money. He wanted to pay his own way to have a chance to train under Cael at PSU. It paid off, as he is now a national champ. Not sure how much NIL helps offset some of that, but I know a few PSU guys have NIL deals. Pretty sure RBY and Nick Lee do/did.
Right. And of those 9.9 schoolies most are split in some way depending on important/elite you are to the program. Some get 50%, some 33% and so on. It's good that Pennsylvania is still the top hs wrestling state in the country because you can imagine the tuition burden for a a kid if he is from out of state and required to pay out of state tuition. It makes it tough but then again, if you want to be a national champ or wrestle for a national champiionship team, you come to Penn State.
also, I didn't know this:
At the NCAA Division 1 level, coaches have a maximum of 9.9 scholarships per team, Division 2 has 9 scholarships, and NAIA coaches have 8 scholarships. The most opportunity is at the NJCAA level, where coaches have 20 scholarships per team.
