The team title race just got a lot more interesting.
Wow
Sorry guys. That’s not very good quality. Best I could do.
Iowa has a very good freshman at 125#, Ayala. He is not and maybe never will be a Spencer Lee but many think he is good enough to AA in March. A rumor, and that is all it is at this point, is Kemerer may be hanging it up this year. It was dispelled by Kemerer himself through a tweet debunking Pat Mineo's original tweet reporting on this. For certain his plan all along was not to wrestle till the first of the year. We will see what happens on January 7.
@lakerie Hey Lake! Happy NewYear! Ayala is good, but with Glory, Suriano, and the Cornell kid (Vito?) back in the mix this year, 125 looks very deep even without Lee. Ayala would have to be pretty special to navigate that as a true freshman. We will see.
@lionbacker99 Right you are about 125 but he did beat the #3 seed in the Southern Scuffle....then lost to the #8 seed. Pretty typical of a freshman with lots of upside for improvement. If he takes 8th. and manages some bonus points it will help their cause. As you say though, this is going to be a far more competitive March than first thought especailly with Michigan in the mix. I do hope there is no glimmer of truth to the Kemmerer rumor started by Mineo. From everything I heard he is a great wrestler and a classier kie. Kem himself dispelled it so we got that.
Looks like Iowa 175#r Nelson Brands is out for the year with elbow su.
That is interesting because Kemmerer has yet to wrestle and is rumored to have struggled with a decision to come back and may be injured? That would most likely leave freshman Patrick Kennedy as the only healthy scholarship option at 174 currently.
Definitely something not right with Kem. Obviously he is wrestling for the Big and National tournament and its said he won't wrestle on the 7th. against Minnesota. After that the Big opponants are really tough and not assured easy wins with potential losses. If he isn't in wrestling shape and loses key matches it won't bode well for seeding purposes.
Lee headed to Iowa because Suriano had already signed with PSU. Nicky Push-ups screwed us twice.
@sky Meh. Maybe, but I’m not sure a competitor with the pedigree of Lee doesn’t go where he really wants to go based in the existing roster. I got the impression he wanted to carve his own path and be the leader to rejuvenate a former powerhouse, which he did. But man, he would have looked really good in Blue & White. Suriano and apparently his father are wild cards and it just didn’t work out at PSU. Seems they have different personalities than Cael and Co.
More drama in Iowa City. Austin DeSanto didn’t wrestle Friday night against NW. Brands burnt a redshirt on a talented young kid to fill the hole. Speculation is that DeSanto is hurt and may be done for the year, otherwise, Brands burned the redshirt on one of their top recruits for a meaningless dual meet. Stay tuned.
